Volvo 850 Keys and Alarm Coding

    Hi All,

I own a T5-R Gul (1995), which unfortunately only has one key...

I'd like to source a second hand alarm fob, with a view to reprogramming it. Is this do-able? What are the pitfalls? The fob is this type:
    Name: fob.JPG
Views: 0
Size: 27.7 KB

Also, I'd like a second key. The man in Timpson's suggests that if he cuts one, it wont have a transponder in it for the car to recognise, so it won't start. Is a '95 car really that clever?

    Regards,

    Mark F

You can get spare alarm fobs from ebay, though they are becoming rare now I think.

The fob looks like it is from the Guard Alarm II system so programming is easy:

    1. Close all the doors, the bonnet and the boot.
    2. Switch the ignition on and off 5 times within 10 seconds, and leave the ignition on the fifth time.
    3. Press the lock/unlock button each fob.
    4. The first remote control has to be programmed within 15 seconds. The rest must be programmed a maximum of 10 seconds apart from each other.
    5. Switch off the ignition and test the fobs.

My '96 850 has the transponder in the key, so I guess the 95 would. Someone should be along to clarify.

    Hi Dave,

    Thanks for your note.

I'm on the hunt then for a few alarm fobs.

I've had some success it seems ordering a key through Volvo, with transponder in it, so hopefully that works out. I'll update the thread accordingly as the bits arrive, and I try to program them.

Visually, it's definitely that fob. I've got one, just after a spare.
