So I bought myself a 2004 C70 2.0t, timing belt had broke, it took the folks 3 months to find a new head, and by that time, the guy who took it apart had apparently "forgot how to put it back together".

So before I go and change the engine, I figured I'd have a shot at putting it back together. It is all there.

I need some help though, because the info I have is duff!

Autodata makes no mention of locking the rear end of the camshafts, and no mention of the VVT pulley on the exhaust cam.

The Haynes manual I have is for an 850, and the position is says to lock the camshafts in is 180 degrees out - if I do that, the timing mark on the inlet cam doesn't line up.

Neither of them are very clear about the positioning of the crankshaft either.

The exhaust camshaft can move clockwise, like it's spring loaded. I've timed it up as best I can, it turns over by hand without any problem, but all five cylinders are only measuring 20-30 psi compression each.

Cylinder head was already bolted down (and correctly torqued), with apparently a new gasket. Water pump and timing belt kit are also new.

Any help welcome - else I'm changing the engine once I get time.

Thanks.
