    850R Auto

    Hi all,,

Bought myself an 850r yesterday, had a 210 mile trip home, it made 190 miles then started missfireing and lost power just as i came off the M1, managed to limp it about a mile where it became undriveable and very smokey- RAC man rekon its blew the seals in the turbo??
Will try and get pictures up, but not good at that sort of thing.

I would bet it's split the turbo to top boost pipe. All your symptoms are of a major boost leak and not a blown turbo, so don't panic to much

Like Colin said, certainly sounds like a big boost leak.

I'm in Manchester, no mechanic by any stretch, but if you want another pair of eyes just give me a shout.

Found the boost gauge pipe was disconnected, would that cause lack of power and missfire,,? not driven car today just had it ticking over on drive,,, Plugs (NGK) were sutted up with a white glaze on some, airfilter was also very dusty- give it a shot of compressed air,
    Will report back

Yeah, disconnected guage pipe would cause a big enough leak to make it run badly.

Black soot on the plugs ties in with rich running associated with boost leaks

I still think there'll be a bigger leak somewhere

    Yeah, thinking about it...

The black plugs wouldn't happen instantly, so chances are you have another leak or probably multiple small leaks elsewhere causing it to run rich.

The guage pipe popping off probably sent it over the edge.

Done 21 miles in car today and all seemed ok, the last owner has fitted a seperate boost gauge so now it has two,- hes plumbed it to the idal control valve and not a tidy job either- also has silicon vacuum pipes to and from the TCV, i will get a diagram and check these are in the right place,,,,
    Will report back.

Misfire has returned and found the dizzy arcing in the dark, so, new leads, cap and arm has sorted that problem,
Also pipe to throttle body has a big split- wil get this replaced next week and hopefully she will run spot-on.

    Big air leak then.
Should be fine with a new pipe and then, a full stage - zero to make sure it's tip - top.

New Throttle body pipe arrived today, got this fitted before and give it a try,,, what a difference, loads of wheelspin and boost gauge going off the end of the white, at a guess it must be chipped,
    Happy days.
