    Running in oil

    Hi all can anybody recomend a running in oil as the new rebuilt engine is being fitted next week

    Standard oil that it will be running as normal.

    That sounds reasonable, maybe just change it after the first 1k miles...

    Just had a similar situation, i put cheap 10w40 oil in for an initial start and warm up 30 mins and then changed to a better quality 10w40 oil for 600 miles at low revs, just swapped it for millers 10w60 and i will change it every 3000 miles.

    But whats the point in using a cheap oil to run in it. Running in is the most critical part of the engine build. Why put that in jeopardy by using inferior oil. Just stick with the good oil you will be running it on

    It's not running in on inferior oil!! Initial start up looking for leaks etc, once warm swap it out for better as this will also remove any minute metal bits from a fresh build.
