    Gul T-5R owner

Got myself a Gul 850 T-5R. Been looking for a while and this one popped up.

Hopefully keeping it standard but making it a little better than it is as a whole. Saw it on a sunday about 3weeks ago then drove to collect it on the tuesday. I paid strong money but for me, totally worth it.

Its M465 ASW, Gul factory manual saloon, totally original inside, restored on the outside, the correct interior mats with yellow writing on them. Absolutely love it, but has a few niggling issues, maily bolts coming loose, incorrectly assembled brakes, dodgy handbrake, seized cable, lambda light on, service light flashin!!!

But its getting there, replaced the lambda n cleared the codes, gone over the brakes with new parts, tightened the bolts on the powersteering pump that was replaced the day i got it!

Couple of pics with the obligetary vpower fuel stop!!

Plans are to keep it looking prestine, possibly remap it, and just drive it!!

Cheers guys, yeah Dana did a top job with the car!

Just been out in it again and it just seems to get better and better!

The noise which im thinking is the tensioner sounds like its comin from inside the cam cover like a cam lobe slapping on the follower, any ideas?

Could be a sticky tappet.....Or a bent rod?

Get that car looked at by a very good mechanic.....ideally a good independent who knows the 850. Sounds like a Dana special

    Did you get a warranty?

The engine was from a guy down in portsmouth that is well know and respected apparently, steve something aka stevestuff on ebay so i dont think its a dud engine but will get it checked.

Dana special? Does he have a bit of a reputation?

Brakes, no oil on sliders, no grease on the ends of the pads, and the retaining spring clip that span the caliper, they were in but wernt pressing against anything, it was just letting the caliper rattle on the sliders. Thats was the front.

On the rear one side had a new fitting kit fitted for the pads, one side had the old rotten pins fitted but no retaining plate that sits under the pins. Again no grease on the ends of the pads.

The handbrake had a seized cable, it would lock the handbrake but it wouldnt move forward when you let it off, you had to roll back to be able to move forward!! Sounded like the shoes were going to snag and stop the wheels turning!!

Steve is Ettienne on here. I'm sure if there's a problem with the lump he'll know what to do.

Dana has a mixed reputation as a car salesman. Has been accused in the past of polishing turds & not disclosing detrimental information to potential buyers. Shame really as he does manage to get his hands on some rare motors, but puts profit befor the punter....like most car dealers

Whatever the outcome in your case you've bagged a rare car, even if you've got some mechanicals to sort out - the t5rs are identical under the hood to a standard t5 so replacement parts are cheap & plenty full.

Enjoy your new car & look forward to the updates.

    Cheers, Morgan

Think that may be Pete's attempt at sarcasm.

There are a good few people on here that don't like Dana.
Never had any dealings with him myself, but I've read enough to know not to.

Lovely looking car there. Hope to have a Gul myself one day.
Once you've sorted the little niggles, it'll be a peach

The colour coded plastic will pop off - so you can get yourself a good second hand wing mirror unit & swap them over if needs be.

My good mate came round to have a cleaning session on the car, came in his volvo and did a cracking job!

    Both together

Also cured the horrible sound coming from the belt area, turned out to be the tensioner as i suspected. The bearings were totally shot, wobbling and sounded like it was full of grit. But new gates tensioner fitted and running like a dream!!

    Old tensioner
