Fitted a boost gauge through the bulkhead grommet to the intake that i had previously blocked off. Getting stuttering readings up to 10, then realised the tube had melted together so im suprised im getting anything atall.

Also the mbc i fitted seemed to have a negative effect so have removed it again. I got boost up to 10 on and off. ECU threw up a code for turbo sensor flow too high.
Theres also still a hesitation on throttle that seems strange. And to top it all a coilpack went, replaced, and now ive got a misfire on 3, the original cylinder the coil went on.

Also had a puff of smoke from exhaust. Something tells me this car will need some serious looking after. It looks good though.

I need help with this people. This car seems to like killing coilpacks.
I have been getting p301, 303, 300 codes come and go. and misfiring and hesitation alot.
Started with the spark plugs, they seem a good colour.

    Nothing wrong with them.
But the gaps were ridiculous. Some at 0.7.
So all regapped at around 0.26 for extra boost, was smooth but still some hesitation which im unsure about. It wasnt there a couple of weeks ago.
Now im getting misfires again on 1 and 3.
Can anyone advise where to go now as its doing my head in. Need to start modifying this car but cant do anything if its not running right.
    Thanks
    Mark

Check the wiring harness for the coil packs, with age, and much heat the insulation gets brittle, and can fail, leading to it shorting out on the head. BTW 0.26 sounds far too small a gap, stick with 0.7mm.

Well on other websites i found info saying 0.3 to 0.28 for normal applications and 0.26 for upping the boost.
It did run instantly smoother with these gaps, but im still getting the main issue.
The wiring has always looked sound but the conduit is cracking up. The plugs and terminals look spot on and non green. Will check the wiring again.
Also another website is saying a dirty maf could be causing this. Any truth in this?

A dodgy maf can cause allsorts of weirdness on these engines but I've not heard of it killing coilpacks.
Might be a bad earth somewhere.

Funny you should say that, I was having a play through the lanes and then it started to feel this limp feeling, the throttle hesitation. This was after i put a new coilpack in to cure the first misfire (which it did) and when i got home i noticed the earth strap from the head to drivers chassis leg was snapped. So i replaced for another earth (same points) and the feeling has never left.

Think there's a couple more earth straps elsewhere (can't remember where tho) might be worth having a snoop about.

I have found one accross the head on the other side to the bulkhead. That is intact.
There is also a large one going from battery to chassis, that is intact if a little green. Cant see any others.
Is there one for the throttle against the starter or is that just newer models?

    Don't recall seeing one.

Have you had a good look around the loom for the coil packs? Even slight cracking in one of the feed cables are can arc to the cylinder head and cause trouble.

I will be having a look when i get home. I should bring my toolkit to work.
Ive got to finish the spring seats tonight. Front and brake discs and pads, and shoes if the ones i have fit. And measure up the exhaust for some straight pipeness.
    Will be busy tonight.
Wont be using it tomorrow so may leave it dismantled for more testing.

I have read that there was one from the throttle to the starter area. I dont want to go digging for that one but i may have to.
Got another coilpack on the way for another misfire. I think the cars going to finish them all off one at a time in the next few weeks.

Also exhaust is ordered, and even misfiring the car sounds awesome with nothing on.

What exhaust you go for? Yeah that sounds like the one, might be easier to get to from underneath..worth giving it a clean up

There are 2 earths on the head - one by the end by the cam sprockets and one that connects about mid-point on the top engine mount.

Thanks, It's 2.5" pipe. only because it slots over the existing pipe, easier for creating the exhaust.
It wont be staying side exit as the missus says the cant take the scraping anymore. Ive had it on most cars and its always just under the sill and scrapes. So in the interest of keeping her happy ill rear exit it again.
The missing cylinder. I have been waiting for a coilpack for over a week now. Having issues with the seller and the courier, quite annoyed at it as money i saved buying the part im throwing down the cylinders of the nissan, not always un enjoyable

Video will be uploaded when i do get it going.

You'll quite often see sets of 2nd hand pack going cheap on forums, it may be worth grabbing some. Especially if your car keeps eating new ones.
