    S80 T6 compression down.

So, some of you will know I've had an S80 T6 for a good few years, that my dad motored around in on the understanding that he looked after it, had it serviced etc. He didn't.
Some of you will also know that he has systematically destroyed it.

The final straw happened a month or so ago when he drove it into a wall and kiffed all along the N/S, so I took it off him. Something I should have done years ago to be honest.

Anyway, it's not been running right for a while and now it's on my drive, I started to do a bit of digging.

Stuck a compression tester on it yesterday, only a cheapo Clarke jobbie, and got between 95-102psi across all cylinders apart from #4 which was down to 30. (cold engine)

Stuck a teaspoon of oil down each cylinder in turn and managed a 5-10psi increase on all, but #4 shot up to 80psi. Still not enough, but that's a 50psi increase.

    So, question is:
Do we reckon that points to bad rings?
Maybe a split liner? (Don't know how prone these are to splitting liners, but same bore I think as the 2.5s)
At first I thought maybe a burnt exhaust valve, he used crappy Asda unleaded, so could have ran lean, but not sure I'd get the increase then.

No signs of HGF, no oil in water/vice versa and no bad compression across pots.

    Any thoughts, Fellas?

Such a shame, I really like this car. Shame my dad didn't think the same way.

    Edit:...

    Forgot:

    Plugs as removed.
    1-6 left to right.

No oil contamination, but maybe thinking 3&4 look a little burnt?
No idea how long they've been in there.

I'm not treating him to anything ever again.
Looks after nowt, worse if it's not cost him money.

He's rolling in a 960 saloon now, which he paid for.

Funniest thing I've heard for a while was when a couple of weeks after he stuffed it, he asked me what I was going to do about fixing it.

it's a shame mate, nice motor

lesson learned for you I guess people who don't care much about cars shouldn't be gifted stuff like that. otherwise painful for all concerned. I'm sure your da has other good qualities just not looking after a T6!!

what's the plan now then don't want to say it but I think that wake in the Angry Pirate was the answer - break it & try to recover some money?

    Dunno tbh.

Trouble is, anything worth money on it is either broken or massive work to remove.

I might pull the head off it (no, not that kind, do enough of that as it is) and see what I can see.

If it's a burnt valve, that's not so bad.

As for redeeming features with my old man - I'm yet to find them.
He's the most selfish bloke I've ever met as I think I've told you before.

I was talking to him yesterday about the car, saying I don't know whether to rebuild it or just scrap it.
He hinted about him having it back once I'd sorted it out.
I laughed in his face. Told him if he thinks I'm gonna hand it over to him after pouring a couple of grand and 100s of hours into it, he's a bigger idiot than I ever imagined!

can only assume he doesn't know the heart ache involved to sort out a rear quarter & low compression!

it's a bugger like I said nice motor, enjoyed surging up the M60 in that in all 4 gears

Or he just doesn't care, most likely.

Lol, aye forgot about that! On the way to collect Teapot the T5R?
    Crazy day, that!

As for the 4spd 'box - Ironically that's never gone wrong, despite their massive reputation for shatting themselves at standard power. Well, what do you expect from GM?
Found a little company stateside that make uprated internals, think I told you, J. Apparently they'll handle 500 horses then.
    That would be nice!

Lmao.. yeah I know you've figured your dad out...

I meant the car dude.. can you not do a sniff test on the water? see if there's any exhaust gases showing up in it that would possibly indicate a cracked liner?..

    Never thought of that tbh.
Completely forgot the liners are surrounded by coolant.

I'll see if I can borrow my mate's sniffer.
