    'Plink' sound from gearbox

My '56 XC70 makes a little 'plink' sound every time she changes down a gear. Not really noticeable unless I have the window open, but it's still a little annoying/worrying.
Local dealer that I bought it from said it's nothing to worry about, but would involve a total stripdown of the gearbox and that's would involve many many £s.

Anyone got any idea what the noise is and whether I should insist on getting it sorted via my third party warranty which runs out in July?

Could be propshaft, they ping when worn esp on autos and noticable when the go from park to drive, but tbh I never did anything with mine.

Also maybe worth checking driveshaft bolts.

Is it the 5 or 6sp auto.

As above, I too get a little 'plink' with my 850 awd from the cv joint on the propshaft when changing gear.

From what I can gather whilst refurbishing the propshaft on mine, it is play between the splines on the shaft and the cv joint. The play is usually minute but the propshaft amplifies the sound somewhat.

I get the same thing on my 1999 V70 2.4 auto, its been doing it for years with no other problems, (that's tempting fate!)
