    The new motor!

Not a lot to say, other than I'm utterly blown away and couldn't have a bigger smile on my face right now!

5.5 BiTurbo with performance pack which includes a limited slip diff and slight power increase to 550bhp and 590ftlb's! It's nippy.

Not gonna be much of a project, other than maintenance and keeping it tidy It really really really does not need, want or warrant any form of modifications what so ever! (even though a remap would see 660bhp!!! - NO, not happening, probably, we'll see, huh?)

    Ooff, nice choice there!

The Sport pack includes an LSD?
Christ, can you imagine trying to put 500-odd horses through an open diff?!

    Oh, map it. Definitely.
Even if only for bragging rights!

Yeah, no diff in standard trim!

The performance pack also has uprated suspension, red calipers (if that's your bag!), other little bits and bobs. The earlier 6.2's didn't have a power increase and were still a measly 525bhp! On the 5.5's with PP they increased power from 525bhp (same output as the 6.2) to 550bhp. The facelifted E63 is 550bhp as standard, and the new 's' model (which replaces the PP) is 585bhp!!

Get it up to MSL in brum, some of the AMGs that come out of there bend the rules of physics. Great choice for a daily driver.

My knowledge is somewhat limited when it comes to Merc's, so only know what I've picked up on in the last few weeks, so I think I'm right in saying...

The W/S212 (W being saloon, S being estate) shape E63 came out in 2009 with the 6.2l NA engine. You can pick these up from about £23k, but anything over £25/26k should get you a pretty decent one.

In 2012 they changed the engine to the later 5.5 BiTurbo, and facelifted the interior slightly (this is the one I bought), these can be had from about £32k onwards.

In both the 6.2 and 5.5 (both 525bhp) they offered a performance pack from the factory which included a limited slip diff, some suspension changes, light weight wheels, red calipers, 3 spoke steering wheel, few exterior touches, etc... The 6.2 had no power increase and stayed at 525bhp and 465ftlb's, whereas the PP in the 5.5 up'd the power to 550bhp and 590ftlb's.

In 2013 they facelifted the W212 E class, and the 5.5 BiTurbo now came with 557bhp as standard, and they offered an 'S' model which replaced the Performance Pack, also with the LSD/Etc... and had 585bhp and 590ftlb's. These run in at about £36/37k plus. The 'S' models are low £40k's min at the moment.

The estate models seems to be a grand or 2 more than the equivalent saloons on average.

Yeah they are, when you consider what they cost new. I just hope it never goes wrong!
