Don't get me wrong, it's a lovely looking and rare car, but it's still a car and like all cars...they breakdown.

My biggest fear with any performance car will always be the gearbox. Seeing as your 12 plate will no longer have a Dealer warranty, I hope for your sake you don't get any issues.

Other than that mate.....well nice Enjoy it!!!

I highly recommend the Dunlop Sport maxx RT's! Gorgeous looking tyre and much better than the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta (I've had both).

Love the new grille too Will look loads better when that's on.

It came with a short warranty from the trader I bought it from. I will look into an extended warranty somewhere once that has lapsed. Possibly Warranty Wise? (anyone had any experience with them, or any other extended warranty company?) I'll try Merc direct but I imagine that will be horrendously priced.

There is a Merc Specialist very near me who have a good reputation. So I will probably use them for servicing and repairs. I don't do huge mileage, the Merc will probably do 5000 miles a year max. There doesn't seem to be any horror stories of common major issues with the E63. The previous 6.2l had a head bolt issue I believe, but even that isn't a massively common problem. Every car has it's issues I guess, and if it breaks, I'll fix it! I wouldn't have bought a car that I couldn't afford to fix if I had to, but hopefully it won't come to that, a £?k's kick in the nuts would be a bollock no matter which way you look at it! I certianly have more confidence in the reliability of this compared to the RS6, which was my other consideration, the internet is littered with horror stories about those! But organising a warranty for circa £150 a month seems sensible.

I'll look into them, thanks. It's gonna need rears very soon! I highly rated the Vred's, so if you reckon they're better, they must be very good!

The Vred's are good but I found the shoulders wore down before the rest of the tyre, not quickly but prematurely. Before anyone says it was my alignment.....(those that know me would know that's BS).

Can't believe it's been nearly 6 months. But still loving every minute of it, and without spending £50k on something, there's literally nothing I would replace it with.

Resisted the urge to spend a penny on it, apart from the grill, which I haven't even got round to fitting! Just ordered a couple of tyres for the rear, but apart from that and fuel it's not cost a bean to run as yet!

Just gave it a quick rinse, and had a blast in the forest this evening, so thought i'd chuck up a couple of recent pics.

Nothing major to report, just enjoying the car.

Last week the car went to PTA Valeting for a couple of days for a full interior/exterior/engine bay detail and Williams ceramic coat. ££££ty phone pics don't do it justice, it looks amazing!

I had this discussion with myself a while ago!

I loved audis for the quattro and the sleek looks. Got bored of my A8 V8 TDi (400bhp / 650ftlb) and wanted something mentally fast. But to be fast, its got to be light. And im sorry but to me modern cars are too heavy. Far too many uneccessary gadgets for a weekend / second car. I have a daily to chug to work in thats fully kitted.

    Debated a C5 RS6 but chocolate box
    Another S55 W220 or W211 E55
    Maybe a CL600 bi turbo

Ended up with a mercedes W124 from 1989 with 480 bhp / tonne lol

Loving that chassis E class - they look so mean when following you!

Operator, thought it was std and he explained that on a recent new m5 he tested, that made more than book was due to the fact that Bmw quotes the lowest possible figure they achieve, e.g hot day or after many runs with heat soak.

He believed it could be the same with Mercedes.

Plus it was pretty much a perfect day for running cold and damp, lots of air.

Not that I know of. But it's possible I suppose. Most maps quote between 650-700bhp. Going by the Merc forums, I think the figures do seem to be underrated from the factory. The old E55's for example (which are 470bhp), near enough always dyno well over 500bhp. Each engine is hand built by a different engineer, so I guess there is going to be some variation between them? GTR's are the same, there can be quite a difference between 2 different factory standard cars. All the other figures for the day were pretty much as you'd expect, and Dyno Dynamics RR's are notoriously stingy.

Either way, it's chucking out roughly the right HP and TQ, so all good!

I'd like to add the merc not only made the ground shake but peppered me with chunks of rubber!
It was also skidding on the rollers with the reverse torque when he let off the throttle.

    Bloody monster of a thing!

always wish Volvo had made a V8, ( but Sweden is a green country so not allowed lol). i have owned many over the years and you cannot beat the sound! A friend of mine owns a Vauxhall VXR with ' naughty exhausts' near me and you can hear it coming about 5 miles away NICE. Cant beat the snarl of an AMG! Bang tidy!
