850 ABS TRACS Lights wired together in instrument cluster

    Hi All,

I'm taking the instrument cluster out to fix the broken ODO.
After a reasonable amount of swearing, I've got it out.

    That escalated quickly!!

Now, the car has lived a checkered life. This is perhaps why there are several bulbs missing (eng management light, oil pressure light). They'll be replaced, so I can then see what comes of it all (I expect it'll be lit up like a Christmas tree) However, what I'm interested in is whether anyone knows why one might have wired the ABS and TRACS lights together...?

ABS works fine, but admittedly, the Tracs switch doesn't seemingly do anything (no lights come on etc).

    Any ideas??

Interesting, thanks. It certainly looks like something dodgy. ABS works, so will remove this bodge and go from there.

Could be sharing the earth or feed if one of the tracks on the PCB was cracked.

New bulbs arrived yesterday, so looking good for re-assembling this afternoon. (I'm lucky to work gentleman's hours on a Friday).

Expect a follow-up picture of a brightly illuminated cluster later this evening. I'll have to start reciting the mantra, it's only money, and never let a good car die....

    Thanks for your suggestions all.

Right then. Reassembled, and keyed on. Still no service light, but all other lamps come on as they should then extinguish. Just need to fix:
    - Lambda warning light on constantly.
    - Tracs switch doesn't seem to do anything (though the tracs warning lamp comes and goes correctly at key on.
    - SRS warning lamp also on constantly.

With that in mind, I went to clear the fault codes, to then see if they came back.
...The poxy little lead which should be connected to the OBD block by the screenwash fill isn't there, so cant read or clear the faults. drat. More parts to source.

No ABS warning light though, which is nice!
