Do you have a subwoofer in the boot ?.
just thinking if you do change the head unit.

No.
Then you have two options.
1. Buy this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-VO...MAAOSw~otWgyiu
Volvo don't make them anymore and they are incredibly hard to get hold of in working condition. The amp fans fail and the amp overheats, this is what kills them! Fans can be bought new on ebay for £10.
A bargain, I can tell you, and will transform the sound you hear in the car. Though I question whether you have the 'Dynaudio' speakers in your car....A main dealer will be able to tell you, as will VIDA/DICE.
2. Remove and sell the stock headunit (if you don't have a sub in the boot) and retro fit your own headunit, amp and sub.

Different car, but I also wanted to keep the original satnav head unit in my BM, so I retrofitted the oe Bluetooth kit into it. Worked perfectly with all the I phones I've had. However I've just gone over to an android phone and because my car is 12 years old the ulf unit doesn't properly recognise the phone. It syncs up and the contacts transfer over but when I take or make a call, the sound transfers back to the phones speaker. I understand most car manufacturers adopted software which would run flawlessly with apple products. My 2 year old golf with factory Bluetooth works with any phone. Just food for thought as your car is older and you want to run an android phone you might have an issue.

Also, if you go down the retrofit route with a different head unit, unless you have the correct, compatible harness fitted then you will almost certainly loose the steering wheel functions.
That would be a killer for me as what's the point in having steering wheel controls if you can't use them!?

To be honest I should have got a new car years ago. One of the main factors in keeping my V70 D5 is the Volvo Premium sound system with sub in the boot. Nothing comes close to it that I've heard.

@ BigGreg,
As mentioned at previous posts, go with the imiv classic. I had that on my old S60 for 3 years and I can say nothing else but good about the unit. It came to me from my friend's 05 V70 R which had the exact same equipment like yours. (except his navi was working). Plug and play and no headache.
Alternatively (if you're still debating), I would still recommend the Parrot Asteriod series. I have the mini connected to my head unit in the R. Works great and does what I wanted. I went for the Mini due to the smaller size screen/display. It supports all iOS and Android devices out of the box. The tablet perhaps a better choice, but it also depends on your requirement.
I've used the cables supplied by http://www.volvotech.eu/ which are also plug and play.

I have the mini too in the D5 and it's not a bad bit of kit but if it was for my R I would go for what Lee and Harvey have.
Thanks
Martyn

I'd go with the iMiv too, still going strong in the old 'R'. If you've the old TV set up, just remember to remove that before you fit anything. I didn't add the bluetooth to mine, although if I still had the 'R' I'd be looking to do that now.
