    Some 940 V V90 questions please

A healthy and prosperous New Year to all. I am new here and have a few basic questions on some aspects of 940 versus V90 chassis.

I have a 1998 V90 estate with the 3 litre whiteblock engine and a manual transmission. I have been told a couple of times by Volvo main agents that only two manual V90 cars were sold here in the UK!

It has, (I think) what is called the M90 gearbox, is that correct?

It also has independent rear suspension.

It is tired, the interior is a mess. and I am thinking of retiring it and getting a mint 1997 940 estate I have seen for sale. It has the 2.3 HPT engine, and again is a manual transmission car.

Can anyone tell me if this will have the independent rear suspension?

What manual gearbox will it have in it?

What engine designation the 2.3 HPT engine is?

If it does have the IRS what LSD options are available? I may want to do some performance mods to it, namely a GT2860 series turbo, somewhat wilder cam, bigger injectors and coil on plug ignition. Basically an updated version of the B21 engine I had in a 244 years ago, that ran blow turbocharging, through twin side draught Dellorto carbs, a big external wastegate turbo from GIK Turboteknik in Gotenburg, nad a Group A cam in the 8 valve head. It gave a genuine 320 BHP on a proper engine dyno and with forged pistons and steel rods was reliable, if hugely thirsty. Modern engine management should make something similar far more drivable and more economic!

    Thanks for looking
