    '04 C70 convertible.

Thought I'd start a thread about this car, most likely not a lot will happen, but here goes...

So, I bought this for the mrs to bob around in. Thought it about time I got her something her mates won't take the piss out of, so cue the Christmas present.

Few pics from the dealer's ad:

    2.4T 5spd auto.
Not fast, but that's not really what these are about I suppose. Mega scuttle shake sees off any potential hooning.
Great spec though, full leather, Dolby 3-disc stereo with the subs behind the rear seats, parking sensors, all the usual facelift goodies... Quite happy

I've had a brief chat with Don about an MTE map. Food for thought, but will have to see how the money goes.
More to the point, see how well she looks after it!

Ordered up a strut brace to see if it'll calm down the scuttle shake.

Got it home and whizzed it around to the father-in-law's where the missus was, and she loved it

Pics with The Black Shark (The S70)

    Has a name: Sloane Kettering.
    Don't ask.
I've no idea what goes on in her head. She's stuck with me for 15 years, so that pretty much proves she's not all there!

Strut brace came and fitted. Really does make quite a difference to the wobbliness. Still no Aston Martin, but loads better.

Also fitted a Chav-o-matic air filter, Halfords' finest carbon and stainless apparently. Removed the bonnet insulation and it sounds pretty good now

    Plans for the future...
    Not sure really.
May go for the MTE map just to liven it up a little.
May look at some sort of stainless cat back.
Also might hit it gently with the lowering stick, as the arse just sits way too high IMO. That's about the only thing I don't like about it though.

Nice C70 cabrio, I've not experienced much if any scuttle shake with my C70 with the top up or down. One thing to checkout is hood storage area for draining after rain.

So how did the wife's mates react to her C70.
Will the MTE map come undr modification with the insurance company?
Lowering the rear, would you fit shorter springs or some by some other method? Lowering the rear would improve vision when reversing.

The engine bey looks nice and clean.
So what's the effect on MPG with that air filter?

I've not really had the throttle to the floor yet on mine yet, usually keep the revs below 3000 RPM.

Cruising round Snodonia roads in the summer with the top down is great.

Love the car. I bought a 2.0 lpt one for Mrs Orca a few years back she loves it
Scuttle shake is truly awful and turning circle was smaller on The Tirpitz but it's a lovely drive
And she just pootles about anyhow.

    Cheers lads.

Aye, was toying with a small drop at some point. Perhaps a subtle exhaust too.

Like has been said though, these really aren't about nailing everywhere.

Tbh I wouldn't really like to cane it .its more for cruising along a country road
The T5 is fast . The C70 is just a nice motor to drive.
It deffo needs a reversing camera though the tail is so high and the rear window is tiny.

    Agreed. Every word.

I've got the T5 too. Always makes me smile when I spank it.

Rear visibility is absolutely pants on the ragtop!

I must be lucky, haven't really noticed this Scuttle shake that everyone speaks of, on rough tarmac road surfaces maybe but I think that's more to do with the low profile tires. All the passengers that have ridden in it say it's really quiet never say anything about discomfort from shakes.

As I've said I usually keep the revs below 3000 most of the time. Locally there is only a few places where you can go ballistic what with tourists, holiday-makers towing caravans, speed boats and trailer with sheep in and tractors, not forgetting farmers on quods and mobility scooters, the joys of driving of costal country roads. It's a day out for trip along the Expressway A55 dual carriageway and cross the boarder into England for motorway driving.

By now I've got used to reversing using the mirrors, have the door mirrors set so I know how far back the car is by the reflections. Never park in any of the spaces near the supermarket doors minimises the chances of door bangers. If it's ever really difficult seeing when reversing I just lower the top for max all round visibility. However, I will get round to fitting a camera.
I'm not sure lowering the rear by only 40mm will improve rear view that much but I would be interesting to experience handling improvements.

Seagulls like car spotting they do it for entertainment.

Just been reminded of this thread, forgot all about it tbh.
Although there was an incident a month or so ago when the missus phoned to inform me that a tyre had "Fallen off" the wheel. She'd not driven it on a flat or anything. Obviously.

Not much to report really, Mrs Sideways still seems to be thoroughly enjoying it.
    Little Miss Sideways, also.

Have a set of Nebs waiting to go on. Little lowereing then methinks

I've tried to pull a flat tyre off an alloy, it's really hard. Careful application of handbrake at 35 mph perhaps? Maybe to entertain Little Miss Sideways

I've got the same car and I can't recommend the MTE enough as it really transforms the car without any downsides as far as I can see. Pick up is instantaneous and it really does shift until the little turbo calls it a day but you'll already be long gone by then. The auto box loves the extra torque, which is what I found on my 9-5 Aero post remap.

I also have eibachs with Bilstein B4s and it handles much better but still retains a very comfortable ride. IPD anti roll bars are next on the list as I've heard great things about them and if ever a car could benefit it has to be the C70.

Btw, I fitted a cheap tow bar to help reduce the scuttle shake but had the swan neck removed with an angle grinder, so it's invisible from behind. Nice cheap mod!

That time of year again so the tyre fairies are back:

She'd not driven on it again, clearly.

Just had a row about it where I also expressed my disappointment about it being covered in bird ££££ and the fact that it now has a green roof.

    I'm a b@stard, obviously.

Don't know what she's going to do for punishment though, I refound my virginity when we had the little-un.

if you take the tyre off, stick it under your pillow, close your eyes & in the morning you'll find that you've had a ££££ nights sleep

Low and behold, she's washed it.

    Received this pic earlier...

Not sure if she made Little-Sideways do it.
Probably not, think she'd tell her where to go with the attitude she's developed lately
