Can I run a OBD1 flywheel with sensor on a M4.4 ecu ?
Can I run a OBD1 flywheel with sensor on a M4.4 ecu ?
1996 850 T5 AWD - Self tuned M4.4 ECU with COP`s, B5254T ( S60R internals in a 850 block ) ostrich 2.0 , VXR injectors @ 3.8 bar, K24 turbo with a 6+6 compressor wheel, 3.25" MAF, top mounted Dump Valve, RN Exhaust manifold, 3" downpipe with 200 cell cat, 2.75" Stainless exhaust, Brembo calipers, S60R brake discs, stainless RIP kit, 3" Throttle body,
From memory it all depends on what signal the ecu is wanting to receive gav had lots of problems on 4.3 swapping a later fly wheel into his obd1 car and it wouldn't fire correctly.
P.s he also tried later sensors which didn't work so ide put money on it to use a later fly wheel if your running 4.4
I've checked the ecu info for both OBD1 & OBD2 and both have a crank sensor output of 825Hz @1.5v
The reason I asked coz I just got hold of a OBD1 engine.

That's why I said it's the ecu not the sensors
I think the sensors are the same, I read a Volvo tech article not long ago which states that when fitting the later flywheel the wires in the sensor connector have to be switched round (must be a polarisation issue).
My 850 runs M4.4 and has the older flywheel (I think, it's the one with the holes in)

Hmmm, not sure then. I don't remember reading anything about the crank sensor being an issue on the VS thread (or the m44 wikia) when converting from M4.3 to 4.4
Here is the tech article:
