    1999 Volvo c70 t5 steering wheel change

Hi guys, hoping you can help me.

I have a 1999 Volvo c70 2.3t T5 and the steering wheel is a little worse for wear at the moment. It is very worn and very sticky. anything I do will not make it better unless I get it reupholstered or get a new steering wheel altogether.

I have been told about Royal steering wheels, who I have contacted and they have told me to reupholster my steering wheel to make it thicker, add thumb grips and perforated leather it would cost about £150. this for me is a lot of money. after seeing some of his work it may be worth the money but I am wondering if there are cheaper solutions.

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volvo-V40-...8AAOSwu4BV1NoP

the link below is for the V40 t4 steering wheel that I have been looking at as it is much sportier than my current wheel and has thumb grips too. it is only 35 pounds which is well within my budget. I am wondering if you guys could tell me if this wheel would fit my C70 and if so how hard it would be to replace or anything I need to do.

Any help would be hugely appreciated.

    Thanks guys

    Arjun

    Hi Arjun

The manky steering wheel is a common problem, Volvo replaced a lot under warranty but I'm pretty sure that window has closed now.

I would be fairly sure the v40 wheel won't work but someone may correct me.

What might interest you is this item I spotted on ebay, was considering it myself but in the end went for one with the wood insert as it matches the interior.

Looks good in the photos, not sure how to put a link in but search for the number and you should find it, £30 or best offer can't be bad.

My p1 V70 R has a chunky p3 steering wheel, fitted by the previous owner though.

Not sure the airbag would still work but can be done with an S60R/V70R wheel...

This person copied my laser, I was the first to fit p2r steering wheel, this one has been I correctly fitted as the chap who did it couldn't solve some of the problems with fitting it.

Looks good that. I mentioned the airbag as I thought the later volvos were two stage bags & the older stuff single stage. No idea if that makes a difference.

Royal steering wheels do some good work though for the price - the wheel on Chris' 850R looks well done:

I never even thought about whether or not my airbag will work, as the guy who bought my R fitted the p3 wheel before I bought it back. You heard of how a p3 wheel works on a p1 joi? The original steering wheel was very badly marbled and looked horrendous when I first bought the car, so had to go.

thanks for that. I have looked at that and it seems like a pretty decent replacement. if I am honest, if I do replace the steering wheel I would like to upgrade it which is why I thought the v40 t4 steering wheels were the way to go with how sporty they are. I think if I cannot get a suitable upgrade I will end up punting for this.

    cheers
