    Getrag 265/5 (535i gearbox) question

    Hello,

I have a whoteblock with a KLRacing adaptor with a Getrag 265/5 GB from the 535i, a more and more common combo being seen these days. I've had it working, but my problem is when the engine is running its tricky to get it into gear.

I'm happy it's not a clutch issue, and my first thoughts are related to the input shaft to crank bearing adaptor the previous owner of the engine and gearbox had made.See pic for info.
It doesn't seem well made and isnt strait or true so I've ground it off and will get a new piece machined so it fits proper and is true.

Has anyone who has done this conversion/adaption know of a similar issue or work around?

    Thanks in advance.

    Rich.

That's the one!! Il direct you to my build thread

I put it on the norortors website as was a little more specific.

Lots of pics here, and yes was driving, but I've since stripped it back for a full respray, now it's going back together again!! Exciting times.

Nice job...I see what you mean about the distributor clearance! Selling the parts you have stripped off the car also might help to recover some of the cost of the project? 13B engine & box, APEXI ECU & controller would sell - I'm on the FDUK forum

Sorry for thread hijack & lack of useful information

Already have sold everything I don't need! I don't have the space either!

The project has paid for itself so far just from selling unneeded parts :-)

Are you using a spigot bearing in the end of the crank ?

    Hi Oblark
Yes that was the plan, the gearbox shaft doesn't reach the bearing though and theyre different diameters also

Hi Guys, just for an update for you all, I had a friend make up an adaptor on a lathe. It needed to be 35mm long, outside diameter of 15mm, and a bore of 12mm that runs at least 25mm into the shaft.

Thats what I thought was the problem was, thats why I asked about the spigot brg.

My redblock M90 imput shaft is long enough to reach the spigot brg with the 10mm thick adaptor plate.

Ideal, have you encountered any problems? I'm hoping this cures my "not going into gear when engine running" issue. Only time will tell!
