    Fault code EFI - 355

I keep get a fault code of EFI 355 which is mass air flow signal fault.

I've replaced the sensor with a known working one but after about 5-10 of driving the lambda comes on. When the lambda light is on the car drives and boost as normal.

All the mafs have been cleaned with maf cleaner but still the lambda light comes on. It's got to the point that every time I use the car the lambda light comes on.

    Anyone have any ideas ?

    Dan

When you say a fault code of EFI 355, how did you get the code with a scanner (obd2) or flash code (obd1), as there seem to give differing results to what the fault is, also what model of car are we talking about would also be useful in the diagnosis, could be something common

    The car is a late 95 850 t5r.

I have VOL-FCR which I used to read the codes.

Could be wrong but I thought vol fcr couldn't read the ignition system and you had to use flash codes from the port.

Might be worth reading and noting the flash codes from the obd1 socket in front of the ecu box, socket 2 of module a should be the one to read

Sorry didn't think that came till mid 96, should have twigged when you mentioned vol-fcr, still puzzled by the code though as it appears to relate to the ignition coil/distributor from what I can see, the code will throw up the lambda but that does not necessarily mean the maf is at fault, I'd expect to see p0102/p0103 (1-2-1) for a maf fault, might be worth looking to the coil, especially as you said you've swapped out the maf and the light still keeps coming back, it is possible the maf is fine and something else is triggering the lambda (mil) light.

I think you can use VOL-FCR on some of the associated components but not the engine ecu.... so you should be able to pull codes from the abs srs powerseats but not the motronic 4.3 ecu system....

although I have not tried this!

I read (and clear) the ignition codes using a an LED and resistor connected to pins 3,(5) and 16 to the ODBII port as per this diagram:

    Name: 850_DLC_LED.jpg
Views: 0
Size: 22.3 KB

from JODT5 on volvo forums http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/archiv...p/t-42315.html

connect a wire from the + out feed port, number 16 securing the wire into the port with a paperclip, to a 12volt led......ignore the in line resistor in the picture
connect two wires to the other port of the led....connect one lead to port number 3, again a paper clip will be usefull....
with the ignition off the light should illuminate
turn the key to pos II and the light will go out.....

the next step, with key at pos II is to dip your spare wire into port number 5 for a couple (2/3) seconds..., your lamp will illuminate...after a couple of seconds remove the wire from port number 5 and watch the lamp....
it may take a few tries to read the flashes as there will be a pause between each digit for you to record....
for instance the normal, nothing wrong code is
    flash.........flash.........flash........
    the code for 1-2-3 is
    flash.........flash....flash............flash..... flash.....flash.....
it will become obvious when you see it........
to delete any codes insert the port 5 wire for FIVE second and remove and wait...after a moment or two the light will flash, immediately and before the light goes out reinsert the wire to port 5 for another 5 seconds..., this may need to be done several times before you get the hang of it.....
by moving the wire from port number 3 to port number 6 and carrying out the same proceedure you can check your climate control ecu
by moving the wire from port number 3 to port number 13 and carrying out the same proceedure you can check your cruise control ecu although you will have to drive the car over 20 mph and not removed the key before you check this, ie to turn off the car turn to position I and then back to II

Does that switch between the various functions/ecu's?
