205 50 R16 Rims. What tyres are compatible?

I'm after some tyres for my T5, and am wondering what size I can use (apart from the obvious normal size). Wondering if I can get away with 55's or would they rub? Also would 195 be ok? Just wondering as I'm after a winter set and checking out fleabay etc for a part worn set as I'm a tight northerner. Obviously, I would have to make sure the load rating is high enough..

    Any thoughts?

Can't remember the name of the alloys off hand (later version of Columbas which came out on the V70)

You could fit 195/55/16s, but they're a bit skinny IMO.

Thought so, the 205 55 16 would rub on the arches IIRC? Skinny tyres are better for snow though, we're supposed to have the mother of all winters coming up lol (better get my shorts and sunglasses out..)

Just to give my 2p's worth, i'm currently running on 225/55/R17's, so if mine don't rub, i'm sure yours won't Just get the bump stops changed.

It already has the turning circle of a barge lol (compared to our lass's Honda Jazz anyway..)

I ran that very car on 205/55/16 winter tyres on steel wheels.

They did rub on full lock but it wasn't a big deal.

The car performed very very well in the severe winter we had a few years back.

I still have the wheels & tyres here......

I was wondering about whether this combination worked OK and improved grip:

    Here's the comparison 205 50 16 versus 225 45 16

    Diameter: 611.4mm 608.9mm
    Circumference: 1920.8mm 1912.9mm
    Speedo error: 0% 0.41%
    Reading at 30mph: 30mph 30.12mph
    Reading at 60mph: 60mph 60.25mph
    Ride height gain: 0mm -1.25mm
    Arch gap loss: 0mm -1.25mm

Good to know they don't rub - Although I was wondering if 225 was too wide for the standard 6.5" T5 wheels?

    I run 205/55/16.

They rub a tiny amount on full lock but nothing loathsome.

Interestingly they are ususally cheaper than 205/50/16 as the 55 profile si what all new polos, ibizas, fabias etc run as standard.
