    03 S60 D5 DMF/Clutch

    Hi folks.
Just putting the feelers out as I had clutch slip in 5th the other day and was wondering what my options are? I realise it's a thousand pound job but in the run up to Christmas I could do without spending that sort of money, Tiny Tim may not be getting any presents otherwise!
    So, my questions are.
Are the LUK kits any good or is it worth paying the extra for the Volvo kit?
Is it worth going down the route of a single mass flywheel or does this cause more problems?

It's my daily commuter and I live in the middle of nowhere so it needs to be fairly reliable.

    Cheers for any help. Simon.

Volvo doesn`t make clutches as far as I know nor does any manufacture.LUK,Sacshs,Valeo are the companies most used by manufacturers. You`ll find an LUK or Suchs print on so called genuine clutch or flywheel.

Mines had an LUK clutch in it for 4 years/80k miles and is still going strong. Didn't need to change the DMF but did do the slave. DMF still seems ok even after 180k miles.

Volvo supply Sachs clutches with 1 year warranty only.
If you get an LUK clutch and go for the 'Arduous' version, then it comes with a 2 year warranty.
I had the later fitted plus a new DMF and Concentric slave.

If I had to do it again I would definitely go Single mass flywheel. Not only are they cheaper and lighter (about 6KG) but also I couldn't tell the difference in pedal feel and absolutely no vibration!

Dealer option is £1700 all in.
I chose Indy at £1300 all in.

For the record.....the clutch kit supplied by Volvo for the D5 is the same as fitted to the S60R/V70R.

Cheers all, very helpful. Hopefully I can lessen the blow by buying the parts and have them there ready for when it gets worse.

I haven't fitted a SMF to my D5. My D5 is currently running a second hand 2.4 T5 DMF (was checked to be within tolerance) and an S60R clutch.
