Turning off service light & other service questions - 850 with OBDII

Mine has just ticked over a year since it's last service and hence the annoying orange service light currently shows up for the first couple of minutes of every journey.

Due to a fairly good year of ownership with continuous maintenance over the year, I just need to perform a general check over, plus an oil change and filter (138k miles and last service was 135k miles at main dealer). This gives the following questions that I hope someone here can answer:

    - What's the preferred oil type & filter, and where to get them?
    - How do I turn out the Service Light? My ELM327 connection to the M4.4 ECU via Android doesn't seem to cover this?
    - Anyone got the tool to turn out the service light near Sudbury, Suffolk?
    - Any other things I should be careful of with a simple oil & filter change? I will change sump-plug washer.

    Thanks in advance folks.

if you have 4.4 then i would assume vol-fcr can reset the service light....

assuming it can I have vol-fcr & am not a million miles away

VOL-FCR is supposed to be able to do it although didn't work on my previous S70

    Thanks chaps.

Jamesy - Plenty of info on that link, can see me trawling through all sorts this eve.

PNut - Your not so far away indeed, the offer is very much appreciated, I'll drop a PM if nothing closer appears.

I don't know about the VOL-FCR, but there I have a Draper 69007, which will do it, if you need to borrow it, give me a shout.

I found VOL-FCR wouldn't reset my service light on my 850 and V70

The good news is you can reset using your phone and the bluetooth elm327 (I have done on my 850 AWD and my V70). You'll need the ElmBasic android app from the Play store and will have to manually enter the sequence but it works.

Here is the code (all credit goes to the guy on the jonesrh website above), send one line at a time via the ElmBasic app (very simple app, just type the line and hit send).

    ATZ
    ATL1
    ATE1
    ATDP
    ATH1
    ATAL
    ATKW0
    ATTA 13
    ATRA 13
    ATIIA 51
    ATWM 82 51 13 A1
    ATSH 83 51 13
    B030
    B230

Basically the first 12 lines are to setup the connection and select the right ecu (51 is the code for the instrument one), the last two lines select and reset the service light.

That's brilliant info Dave, I've got a few things to try now - One of them should do the job!

Better get the oil, filter and sump plug washer bought for more car fun on my UK return.

Make sure you enter the code correctly (all uppercase and those 0s are zeros (just to clarify )

If you can get the jonesrh webpage/script working then you can change the service interval, etc. I couldn't get it to work on mine as I am running windows virtually on linux and for some reason it won't connect properly via bluetooth.

I just typed a long message to ask about case sensitivity, plus the 0 letter or numbers, now deleted

Does it require the spaces in the codes?

    Thanks in advance, great help
Yep, it is case sensitive (AFAIK) and yep all the 0s are numbers. Not sure if there is a timeout (think one of the commands is a 'keepalive') but try and enter each command as quick and accurate as you can.

    Good luck

    Cool, hope it works!

Just reading the jonesrh website in more depth (a lot of info there, really good read) there is a instrument test procedure you can activate which tests all the gauges to their maximums (apart from boost obviously), etc. Might give it a go tomorrow

Hope your needles don't fall off... If it works, and includes it as a gauge, then a photo of the speedo needle is a must (possibly even accompanied by a spoof thread)

Just a quick question on Volvo oil filter and sump plug washer, is it possible to get these delivered at a good price directly from anywhere online?

I'm in France for a few weeks and would like the bits there ready for my return so will order in advance from your recommendations (which will save a drive to Volvo).
