    Immobilser antenna ring issue`s

Was having some issues with my 1999 V70 R awd not wanting to start, was as if my battery was flat and would attempt to turn over then splutter and die and dash clock time reset to zero.

If i returned to the car later it would start up as if nothing was wrong, got the battery and alternator tested and was told the battery was on its way out so new battery fitted but issues would still pop up every now and then.

A friend who does work for me on the car suggested that the immobilser antenna ring maybe the issue, is this a common fault and do i need to get the new part coded to my car or is it just fit and away we go ???
    Cheers Shaun

I wouldn't have thought the antenna ring would cause a dash reset, sounds more like a loose connection somewhere.

I think my antenna ring is playing up, sometimes won't start, just fires once and then dies. If I bash the steering column underneath it seems to rectify the problem LOL

The antenna ring is just an aerial, so you won't need the key recoding if you fit a new one.

offer would stand for the OP, but it would be a bit far to come to swap out a part to see if makes any difference, cost of fuel would equal what a new ring would cost from volvo....or more if you have a thirsty one like the rest of us....lol

    To the OP.

Having had problems in the past with the ring antenna on ours I would say that it is not the cause of your problem.

When ours was playing up one of two things would happen. Either fire and immediately die the same as Daves or just crank until the cows come home without firing at all. Also when I changed it I did not disconnect the battery and the dash clock did not reset itself.
As already said it sounds more like a loose or corroded connection.

    To Dave.

Next time it happens instead of bashing the steering column try taking the key out, turn it over and try again. Sounds daft I know but it does seem to do the trick.

As above may not be the antenna ring - all I can think of would be to check the battery leads - '+' all the way to starter & earth connection also

My car had a non-starting problem also (it wouldn't crank but didn't lose supply from battery) - it was a skinny little wire going into the back of the starter solenoid

See the thicker red wire in the picture - is that connection OK

Cheers bud, I sometimes take the key out and put it closer to the ring, then pop it back in, this probably turns it over. It'll be getting sorted once the 850 is back on the road.

And I should really get my own thread LOL. Sorry OP
