Finding the correct Bosch Lambda Sensor for your 850... (and others)

As my MOT is later this week and a few months earlier I'd had some issues with the lambda light flashing on (solved by left inlet manifold vacuum rubber elbow replacement), after digging around on the internet I though it might be worth confirming the correct lambda sensor for my car and letting people know how much they are.

They are considered a serviceable item at 160,000km (100,000 miles), original Volvo parts are Bosch.

Here's the online Bosch catalogue link: http://www.bosch-lambdasonde.de/en/d..._2014_2015.pdf

If like me you do not want a universal part with the connector soldered on 'post purchase', then for my 1996 850 T5 you have two interchangeable part references, note that for my year and model they only have Pre cat i.e. front lambda sensors.

    0258 005 097
    0258 003 626

Highlighted in the Bosch catalogue extract below:

Now comes the good part, these are currently listed very cheaply at www.buycarparts.co.uk

    I'd advise picking 0258 005 097 as it's £50 (plus £8 delivery), the link is below:

    http://www.buycarparts.co.uk/bosch/1148886

After talking with the online help I also have a couple of discount codes that are current for about 5-7% additionally off:
    E1N37 and IMU2175

You end up with a new Bosch Lambda sensor delivered for not much over £50, hope this helps some of us!

Now for fingers crossed it doesn't actually need one

Yep, T5-R as well - Although I'm a slight buffoon as I highlighted engine code B5234T when I should have highlighted B5234FT for my car... recommended sensor still the same.

Bit of bargain at the moment.

One thing to watch is whether they come with the Volvo plug or you have to wire it yourself.

The universal sensors are listed in the column further to the right, those I have highlighted have the correct connecting plugs, as per my note below

If like me you do not want a universal part with the connector soldered on 'post purchase', then for my 1996 850 T5 you have two interchangeable part references

The lambda sensor has a service life of 200,000 miles after that it could start to cause emission problems.

When I changed mine I brought one of these,

It's been in the car now for just over a year and is as good as gold.

My car passed the MOT, all emissions seemed well within limits with no sign of the lambda light (138k miles), so no new probe was required, at least not at the moment
