Total result! Sound like a genuine family too. Always reassuring.

I had no idea of the condition of the car before hand, he offered it me for that so I said yes. Bit disappointed at the high mileage but of course this really doesn't matter.

I'm pleased to say that the family have apparently found a big stack of receipts for this car and are bringing it over next week, result!
Forgotten what the thing looks like! Tuning taking a little longer than expected. Gonna be a belter when it's back though.

Well I still haven't got the paperwork, this car is probably stolen haha

Not done anything with the car yet except confirm the sunroof motor is fine so it's the mechanism that's jammed, oh the joy!

    I'll start soon, I promise.

sounds a similar problem to the one on my olive T-5R, tried a new motor but mechanism is stuffed some where, so I will have to drop the roof lining at some point to fix, not that I'm in much of a rush to do that, as it looks a right pita and thats why it's still broke 2 summers late, unless there's an easier solution.....

Yeah, you press the button, you get one click as the motor tries to turn but stops, the one cable won't budge

I fear like you Mr Moley that I won't sort the sunroof when the car is on the road so it'll be the first job to change it.

Having removed the unit from the breaker it wasn't too bad but I imagine installing one back in is the hard part. It's not too heavy but having it above your head while you're kneeling in a hot Volvo it makes for an arm aching experience! Obviously 2 people is a most!
Looking at the V70 unit the cables aren't visible from inside the car, you will have to remove the whole mechanism.

I've roped in a friend to help, payment: KFC. Bargain!

There we go, I met up with the seller today so finally got the paperwork, only took 6 weeks...

850R Paperwork by AcidicDavey, on Flickr

I've got complete history from 100K, 2005 on, all with its 3rd owner. The 3rd owner bought it from a Volvo dealer in 2000 with 39k on the clocks. Sold it in the 1st half of 2011 with 199k. It ended up with a dealer who sold it on in an eBay auction in April/May 2011 for £1490 to the family I got it from. He sorned it straight away and that's all I know for certain. Was taxed in his ownership (got the discs in the car) and then sorned again in May(I think) 2013 and that's when it was last on the road. 4th owner did 5K in it from 2011. He died earlier this year apparently. Mileage now just under 205K.

Now some good and bad news...

The bad: Sadly, that in the photo above is all that there is, in otherwords no glovebox handbook pack/wallet (yet, they still haven't fully checked through deceased owner's property) so no history book or owner's manual. The missing history book is no bother of mine as the stack of receipts is so comprehensive but the lack of the wallet is a shame as of course the R has a special one, hope they can find it

The good: Well, if the receipts are anything to be believed then this car has been very well looked after. Been serviced religiously every 10K by either PW Cars (Volvo specialist) or Volvo main dealers. Passed it's last MOT in late 2012 with no advisories, only 2000 miles ago so we should be alright . Example, when the ABS module died it had a brand new one fitted at £300! Bloody hell!

Now the really good: It would appear the car was fitted with a Rica 304, happy dayz! This £200 'breaker' just gets better and better. Will have to check if it's there of course

On with the work and clean up now I guess.

P.S. He still hasn't gone and checked out the other 2 cars he had so have no idea what they are I'm afraid. I know last time I said Birmingham but this car was registered to a Kidderminster address so anyone know of 2 possible 850s in a car park there then they might be the 2 cars we are on about here?

Davey would it be possible to ask the Volvo dealer for any evidence of service history? You could tell them VIN or get history of any plate changes here https://www.mycarcheck.com/

example of what they give below:

Also, changed from orange to what?
Does it actually say gay gold on the logbook now?!

Aye plate history is more confused than Conchita Wurst's barber. I think someone actually bothered their arses to change the colour to saffron maybe mine is the ONLY saffron.....& the rest are just boring 'orange'

Well I've got complete history for the last 10 years and 100k so that's something. Shame about the missing bits from earlier in the car's life but it might still turn up although that I highly doubt!

No progress made other than stripping the headlining out. Struggling to rope anyone in to help replace the sunroof, everyone I know is bloody lazy lol

Well, finally made a start on this car, I do still have it believe it or not!

The first job I wanted to do was replace the jammed sunroof (tricky job).

Got the headlining out easily enough, in really good nick really, I doubt this car has been smoked in much (if at all).

Getting the sunroof out itself isn't too difficult just being held in with about 9 10mm bolts but it is very heavy when it's above your head, be careful!

Once it's out your car will look like this...

The whole sunroof channel looked like this which will probably explain why it was jammed!

The new unit I removed last year from another car...

Remember though folks to check the blind is the right colour for your car, you can only change the blind with the sunroof mechanism removed and it's a bit difficult to remove the bling tbh! I didn't realise beige interiored cars had different colour headlining before I had this car!

It's a struggle fitting the new unit but well worth it in the end, we now have a working sunroof! ...Sort of! When I removed it about April last year it worked fine but while being sat in my Nan's garage untouched it has decided to be a bit clunky, it keeps jamming on the passenger side. It will close if you give it a hand by pulling it shut which is a pain. I'll drop it again and make sure the channels are completely clear, frustrating! I gave it a check before installing it but obviously not thorough enough!

    Anyway, proof it works now!

We'll go back to the car soon and drop it again and check it, I may then go on to wash the car for the first time. I'll be honest, I have been tempted to sell the car but I think I should see it through!
