So what a long night, managed to borrow some ramps again after finishing work at midnight and worked until the early hours to get a few more jobs done.

Firstly did a full gearbox oil change with 75w90. I had no record of any change and in 20yrs and 180k I figured it wouldnt go a miss, I dont buy this lifetime crap! Turns out a job worth doing, the old oil was like coca cola!!!

Secondly turbo change... after a missing dataplate on the fitted turbo and having previously had a 15G actuator on I doubted its credentials as a 16T. Once removed on inspection of the veins it was clear it was a 15G so now sporting a 16T. Ran it in for around 20 miles after filling it with oil and cranking the car prior to startup and it runs well with no smoke, thanks Jamest5r and Claymore (previous owner of turbo before James!).

After fettling with the Blitz on maximum setting its now peaking in 4th gear at 1.25 bar and pulls so much better than before. Very happy indeed

Next job is a trip to Dave Walker at Emerald just down the road for a Dyno Run.

Just a quick video to give an idea of the second and third gear pull at 1.1 bar accelerating from 30.

    Looks slower than it feels!

Ok so had a little niggle for a while now which is bugging me and needs resolving. It did it before I fitted an RIP and the 3" throttle.

Basically the car has decided when up to temperature (within a few minutes of operating) it fast idles at around 1200-1300 RPM. When cold on initial start-up it idles at around 800 but if you turn off and start again warm it remains at 1200-1300.

I've checked all VAC hoses including the silly elbow, IC pipework is ok, changed thottle, changed idle control valve still happens. It's liveable but bloody irritating.

    Any ideas???

Does sound like a Vac leak.

Have you tried spraying carb cleaner around all the hoses/joints/inlet manifold?

No... I'll give that a go though.

Certainly no notable leak and it'll happily boost to 1.3 Bar and hold it.

No! Only the IC top pipe and actuator, the 16T was completely shagged.

Have you changed the thermostat? Cheap enough & can cause weird & wonderful running issues if they fail. Think I read a similar thread somewhere recently, I'll try & dig it out & see if they found a solution. Good luck. Morgan

My brothers did this and a new temp sensor mostly fixed this and then when I did the PCV we found a the vac line at the end of the manifold worn and broke off and that completely fixed it when that was changed.
