Looks like I may have found a supplier for poly bushes...

I may even be able to make this thing handle yet.

Don't need big brakes if you can avoid obstacles/old dears!

Been looking into this a bit further.

Lots of digging around on the 480 forum and Renault forums seems to suggest that my current setup is about the limit.
170ish bhp is pretty entertaining in a 1-ton car, and 100bhp-per-litre is still pretty good for what is essentially a converted diesel engine, so old-skool it doesn't even have a crossflow head.

However, I'm a stubborn £££££££ and don't like to be beaten.

So, I already have the T3 from a 940td, so that will eventually be modded slighty so it'll bolt onto the T2 flange on the manifold.

Currently thinking something along the lines of standard T5 injectors might fit the bill.
Problem here is that live mapping is out of the question due to the old-skool management being made of dinosoars or something.
Apparently, it uses the lambda to control fuel trim below 3k revs, but after that it guesses as best it can, presumably from the MAF readings. That's the reasoning behind the T5 injectors, they should be reasonably oversized enough to flow the extra fuel needed on boost, but the ecu should be able to back them off at lower revs enough that it won't just spit Optimax out of the exhaust.
There is/was a modded ecu knocking about on the Renault forums that apparently removes all limits from the mapping. I'm not into this though, as the current set up would back off if it detected knock. I think I'd be getting to see one or more of the pistons very quickly!
Also, as the system uses a BCV, I need to find a way of tricking the ecu, as 14psi is all that it'll let me run before it cuts fuel.

On the list also is a cam from a N/A car. Not ideal, but better than the standard Turbo cam, as they're supposed to be pretty lame as Volvo wanted the turbos to drive like they were N/A.

Or I could just bolt a supercharger to it.

    What would Colin do?...

Don't know if they still have any or how good they are...http://www.efi-parts.co.uk/index.php?productID=167

or....T5 injectors, bigger turbo & standalone ECU maybe?

    //edit

ah you need to send them your ECU and they will modify it....Chris is the guys name, he might be a good contact to answer what other modifications you need to allow higher than 14 psi without going pop

Aye, that's the one I'd seen.

Although, reading it back it says that it's available for pretty much every other colour ecu bar mine.
This one's red, if you remember? Seem to remember something from Robou about these having 2 boards instead of just the one.

Come to think of it, Ray's a '93 auto and has a red ecu. Your new 440 may be the same, rather than the blue that you're hoping to shoehorn in there.

££££££££ probably you right - the 440 is August '92, a few months older than Ray. I was thinking that since they are all 'K' reg then they would be the same.

Here's one of Ray in standard fettle..

    Lol, cheers Fella.

Could you email me that pic of Ray? Also any pics you have?
Would be good for the album

Aye, seems that 480s got updates first, newer engine mounts, 2.0 engine, etc slightly before the rest of the 400s.

I'm gonna email that guy anyway and find out what the craic is.

Chris? If you can catch him he is a very knowledgeable fella. Look at Scoff Renault 5 videos on youtube! I’ve been chewing his ear about EFI for my T2. Need a new inlet manifold to do it though.

Just downloading all the pics now mate, cheers

    Found an eggcrate grille, huh?
Manuel's gonna end up looking like Ray, but hit up the arse! - Like that Rover in Father Ted.

I'm beginning to think I'm your hero, J. Either that, or you wish you'd never got rid of Ray and know that you'd have to pry the keys out of Louise's cold dead hands to get it back!

Would be interested in where you got those repair panels though. May be worth bagging a pair for when the time inevitably comes...

    Well, been a while.

It's looking like I'm not going to be converting this bad boy to a manual now, or at least not for the time being.

Instead, in case it turns up in the shortlist for shed of the year, I've sold one of my knackers and spent waaaaay more than the car's worth on parts to start to bring it up to scratch.

Either here or on the way:
    Exhaust,
    Crank sensor,
Plugs, leads, dizzy cap and arm,
    Ignition coil,
    Ignition amplifier,
    VW recirc valves,
    Braided brake lines,
Super blue brake fluid (or it's replacement),
    -40mm Lesjofors springs,
Bilstein B4 dampers (about as good as it gets for a 400)
Poly bump stops and wishbone bushes.
    Probably something else I've forgotten.

Oh, as well as putting the gearbox back in.

Should keep me out of the pub for a while...

Good work! Why u no convert to manual - differences between M59/M60/problems sourcing a clutch..?

I have a turbo manual box if u want to go ahead..? And pretty sure sachs do a 215 mm clutch - the Renaults use them. We'd just need to work out which clutch cover suited

    A few reasons really.

The 460 I was swapping things around with is rotton as a pair and I'm not prepared to throw a fortune at it to sort the bodywork. Craig (Tomcat) was going to do me a favour with it and do it for a decent price, but he's not in a position to now. Thinking of breaking that one for all it's goodies - leather, A/C etc.
It's either the last auto turbo, or second last depending what sort of day Howmanyleft is having, and there is a purist in me somewhere.
Thinking that if I'm going to throw a load of money at something long term, as my Capri is going, I want to do something a bit special with the 480.

(please be aware that I am actually bipolar, so will have probably changed my mind by tomorrow )

Nowt wrong with changing your mind on projects I like to do that about once a week

Obviously though your box swapping skills () are too good to waste, so does this mean you'll be helping me do a T4 swap with Pollution....?

You mean once I've done Nipper?
    I wouldn't hold your breath!

And the least said about those particular skills the better!

Gonna be a slow burner that one, like.
