Radiator support bar bolts- nut broke loose off the chassis

    Hi,

I tried to drop my radiator to replace my intercooler last weekend but the two 12mm but threaded tabs/nuts on the chassis have both broken free. This now makes it very difficult to remove these bolts now.
Has anyone had this issue before and could suggest a good solution to remove them?

    Thanks

Yeah, it's very common, the easiest way is to cut the heads off the bolts, then replace them with nuts and bolts when reassembling. If you look at my project thread, there's a complete breakdown of how I did mine on my C70, unfortunately I'm accessing the forum from my phone, so can't link it.

    Great thanks guys.

Sorry if I missed it but what did you use to cut the nuts off? Space seems tight down there!

Weld the rivet nuts back to the chassis.

I used a 4" angle grinder, just take your time, use a grinding disc, and literally grind the head off the bolt.

Dan, unfortunately I don't have access to a welded and it will involve grinding the paint, welding and coating which personally seems a lot of faff. But sure if I had the time and tools it does seem the better option.

Thanks Stribo, I will give that a go over the week end nice car by the way, I hadn't noticed how much work you have done to it until I read your thread.
