    Manual conversion

This is something i intend to do on my T5 auto at some point. Got a couple of questions though:
    - Would any 850 manual box work or does it have to be a t5? Seen a couple of cheap TDi's that are manuals.
    - I'm hoping to exhange car-car so should have most bits available but is there anything i should be buying new, clutch, etc...
    - anything to look out for?
    - Any tips?
    It's a 5 Cylinder Orchestra!

I'll be getting my car converted at some point.

Any petrol manual should do, can't comment on the use of a diesel but I'd guess not.

A few things to think of is if your car has cruise control and if so whether you want to retain it.
If so on manual cars there is a switch on the clutch pedal to cut it out when the drive is disengaged.

With regards to buying new bits I'll be buying new linkage cables rather than the old ones off the donor.
Also might be worth changing the rear main oil seal?

This guide might be worth a read?

Excellent guys, thanks for the pointers. I have heard of the six speed St box being used, is it a simple case of just using that box or is there far more involved? I will hopefully be getting a donor 850 at some point.

The gear shift set up is a bit different on the Ford box I'm told and needs a bit of fabrication.
Best Steve (Ettienne) fills you in as he's done the conversion a few times now apparently.

depending how things go and whats involved id love a 6 speed box for my 850. i do a fair few motorway miles n having another gear to slot it into n lower the revs that little bit more would be great! sits at about 3K when crusing not great for the drone or the fuel eco!

I'm not sure the final drive ratio is any different to the 5 speed, but I could be talking ££££££

On the motorway my car with its 6 speed boz does 80 mph @ 3000 rpm.

To fit the M66 box in a 850 you will need to fabricate a new rear mount, a new spider for the gear cables and a new arm for the selector on the box. All of these where designed and fabricated by Steve and myself.

1996 850 T5 AWD - Self tuned M4.4 ECU with COP`s, B5254T ( S60R internals in a 850 block ) ostrich 2.0 , VXR injectors @ 3.8 bar, K24 turbo with a 6+6 compressor wheel, 3.25" MAF, top mounted Dump Valve, RN Exhaust manifold, 3" downpipe with 200 cell cat, 2.75" Stainless exhaust, Brembo calipers, S60R brake discs, stainless RIP kit, 3" Throttle body,

depends on the box/final drive you have

    http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/topic...9-differences/

Seems pointless for me to change my M59 to an M66 or an ST box as top gear ratio in all of them is 0.7:1 and final drive 4:1..? Or is there more than one M66. Might accelerate better I guess!

I listed above there's (iirc) 6, but the focus box gives nice acceleration to a sub 300bhp car with the ratios, makes them really move

I prefer the 6 sp, I have an m59 with shafts sitting on the workshop floor and a focus box, it's the focus box that's being fitted.
