    Cheaply coil-overs

Haven't been one for a while so forgive me chaps ! . I'm still trying to get the ruin of an 850r to drive nicely and I'm up for some new shocks. I've got H&R springs to go on off the old T5 but was wondering if the cheapo coil-over kits sold on eBay are as pants as I suspect they may be. Anybody used any of them, good or bad ?

I had the cheapo coilovers on my old T4 and all I can say is do not do it!! The ride and quality is awful. I won't go into the details.

I swapped to H&R and they were 100x better. H&R springs are excellent quality.
    Grey 855R Manual. Totally standard.

If you buy them I will will travel to your home tie you to the back of my car and drag you down the road on your face as this will prepare you for the ride quality you can expect.......

I'm sorry, bloody auto correct, that should have said they are awful

Lol, ! Thanks guys, that's exactly what I suspected (but you know that little voice in the back of your head !). Will stick to the H&R's, dump the nivos off the rear and put some decent shocks on !

I've had much worse! The ride is a little harsh at times but the old bus handles well & is still very comfy. Mark Lewis has recently put them on his p1 R & he is happy with his.
Depends what you want but for £280 they get a thumbs up from me.

I have had these cheap coilovers on 4 previous cars now and from experience I can give a pretty fair judgment on them-

They are hard! When the roads flat the handle great but they can be a bit bouncy.
I had them on my old S70 and they improved the handling over the floppy old set up but it really needed a strut brace and lower profile tires (205 55 16 on that car) to make up for the stiff springs working against them but I would say in general they are pretty good.
I have neither had any fail on me on either of the cars despite people saying they will.

If you haven't got a big budget and want to lower the car then go for it as you are getting new shocks and springs for £240 but if you can stretch out for something better then go for that! The only thing I would say is that the rears with the adjusters in sit quite high, and I had to remove the adjuster to actually lower it over standard.

    Hope this helps

I've got them on the C70, and yes, the ride is very firm, but the way the car stays flat under hard acceleration or cornering makes up for it.

I had a set of them and sold them within a week or two, Liam's (iirc) drop link bracket sheered off when he lowered it quite a lot.

Better off with maybe decent secondhand bc's that what I put on my t5r olive and they were very good, I found some that had only done 500 miles for £400

Appreciated, but still quite a big difference in £240 versus £400.

Definately I agree as I only paid £650 for my gul manual estate and £400 is almost a cheap car, but the are easily five times as good.

    I thought the bc's were £700?
If the pro sports were top adjustable they would be fine but as said for the money I think they are great.

I'd sooner have a set of koni's and replace all the dust covers, top mounts and all the other bits then have it properly set up than pay £800 for BC's to just throw them on the car and forget about everything else.

I have been supplying a full suspension kit with adjustable front camber, adjustable front and rear damping and adjustable front ride height for around 17 years now.

Made here in the UK and fully rebuildable you can find the kit here on my website: http://kalmar-union.com/parts/volvo-...70-suspension/

That price is not much higher than you will pay for a set of Eibach springs and compatible non adjustable Bilstein dampers.... however does represent a fair sum when compared with the value of an older car....

The v70 i bought a few weeks ago that im breaking now had the cheap ones on and must say on that volvo they were very bouncy but did make the car handle well, they did knock / bang abit driving over pot holes and stuff, but must say since i have put them on my other volvo they are alot better so to me must help having a sorted front end with working bushings not worn.

Average price for a set of BC's is about £675 delivered, and that includes brand new (camber adjustable) top mounts. The BC's represent very good value for money.

That does seem like good value. Are they height adjustable on the rear?
