    locking wheel bolts

So for the first time I let the garage I have been using since I started driving loose on some mechanical work on the P2 R and they mess it up! I have always been told never to tighten lock bolts too tight, well these guys have! Can't believe it, they had finished all the work that was needed doing on the car but then I decided to get them to fit a new alarm battery for me, and they couldn't get the wheel off. This has been over a week now and they have damaged one of the alloys by using a air wrench, I hate these bloody things being used on wheels for this very reason. I'm just glad I asked them to change the battery because I would have got the car back not knowing that I would run into issues further down the line and I wouldn't have anyone to blame. So God knows what they are going to do because they are still stuck.
    Thanks
    Martyn

\that was my job on the gul yesterday, remove one broken locking wheel stud, drill was not an option (no suitable carbide bit available at the time), socket didn't wish to play ball being hammered on to the stud, so I took a chisel to it and tried to drive it round without marking the titan, this managed to distort the top of the stud enough to now hammer the socket (19mm iirc) over the top and grip enough to loosen the stud......I was lucky to get it off that easily, I was expecting to have to weld a nut to the top of the stud to get it to budge, luckily it didn't come to that.........feel your pain Martyn nothing worst than having someone else do stuff badly on your car and is why I try to do anything myself, then I only have myself to moan about when I stuff up.

Happened to me with my 1st Volvo, my p2 V70. Had a puncture, RAC couldn't undo the nut, so off to my Volvo indy on a truck who drilled it out. Changed all the others at the same time, so I rarely entertain lockers now. Adrian, did Gul come with lockers on from me? I had all those wheels off and wouldn't have over tightened them I wouldn't have thought..........

I suppose it's one of those situations where if we got a set of wheels nicked then we'd go back to lockers, but remove them and replace ourselves when at the garage.

I'm not a fan of lock bolts anyway so it's just getting a std bolt fitted this time. I'm not going to start complaint to them, I will just bump the mile up on the new astra they have gave me. Nice comfy car with leather seats, never thought I would say that about an astra.
    Thanks

It's actually a decent car, I had a hire one earlier this year and really liked it but it had a proper gutless petrol engine. This diesel one is not bad, still can't get the same mpg as the D5 can though. Nah I'm always going to be with Volvo even though some of there new ventures aren't so appealing to me
    Thanks

Not you mate, I've had them all off a while back and I don't do the locker up as tight as the rest for this very reason, it must have been fatigued as the squiggly centre had gone awol somewhere over a few thousand miles, anyway no major drama just an awkward job to do, needless to say the locker was not replaced, just have to be careful where I park.....

If you have a wheel refurb place near by give them a call - I left the grey r on Monday for the wheels to be done not noticing that they had lockers on. No drama for them boys - they said they have to get them off all the time, lost keys, forgetful Muppets like me etc....worth a try & you can get a quote for the garage to repair the damage. Win win.

We had the same problem with the S60R, got a puncture not long after we bought it, and the locking wheel nut key was knackered. The RAC got the one off we needed there and then, we found a place local to us that got the other 3 off, don't know how they did it though, as they wouldn't let me watch, but they didn't damage any of the wheels.

Thing is modern motors have a levelling sensor in the alarm so as soon as it`s jacked up the alarm will go off.......so better they take the car if they do want the wheels!
