    Engine replacement

    Anyone tell me the best way of swapping the engine out on my R?.. Is it best to drop the whole subframe and take it out the bottom?. If so then whats the best way of getting the subframe back up again? Can I just use a jack or would an engine hoist be best?

    I've taken a few of these engines out before but I've never actually put one back afterwards, I'm on a rather truncated timeline so I need to find the simplest way of doing this.

    I believed at people take out and replace from the bottom. In my ignorance I took mine out the top back in 2006 before I knew better.

    Couple of two tonne jacks should work.

    Lift the body off the subframe and wheel it out ( even easier if you have lower the subframe on the a supermarket stock trolley or some thing similar) and then gently lower the body back onto the subframe after you have swapped motors, simple once you've done it once or twice, just take it slowly and watch of the tricky pipe or wire that will try to hook itself up on the way in or out......good luck

    Thanks guys, I've only got the one 3 tonne jack so I'll have to try and make do with that. Not looking forward to trying to get it back in as I dont know how the hell I'm going to balance the complete engine/subframe assembly on only one jack.

    With out a lift get some pallets possibly stack two high undew the loom and all other ancillary's including steering linkage then lower the car/sub frame onto the pallet you will need two jacks from either side jack the car as high as possible leaving the engine and sub frame on the pallets and as said above swap engines put it back on pallet and now lower car down and with a jiggle line the sub frame bolts and steering Colum back up.

    Hmm... Prob more chance than of getting it in the S70 or 460!

    oh hang on, your seats won't even fold down will they?

    The crane folds, might go in the S70.
    I'll check over weekend and run it up to you on Sunday if it'll fit Matey
    (Might even bring my spanners and swear box!)
