    Front screen misting

Hi technafobes, am getting the near side windscreen misting up, air con and windows open won't clear it, I suspect heater matrix, but there is no sign of dampness in the passenger well, but a distinct smell of anti freeze in the car. As the car is SORN at the moment, can't get any where to get it looked at / repaired, would appreciate some feed back/ help.
    Thanks

Definitely sounds like the heater matrix Dave, our V70 did the same thing, the carpet wasn't wet to touch but when I pulled it back it was soggy underneath.

Sounds like the heater matrix to me as well, but the 'mist' is more stubborn than normal, almost grease like.

How's your pollen filter looking as well, if that's clogged it can cause condensation issues.

Heater matrix from my experience, as Stribo says won't necessarily wet the carpet but it will be soaking below, cheap and easier to fix than some make out, did mine and was expecting a pig of a job and found it to be nice and easy

That's because Ethylene glycol is (amongst other things) a lubricant for your water pump. If you dip your finger in your coolant reservoir and rub your fingers together, you'll find its quite slimy.
If it's condensing on your windscreen because the matrix is leaking, then it will be greasy/slimy on the screen.

Neat Carburettor cleaner will shift it. Spray onto the cloth not the inside of the windscreen, else it will dissolve your dash!

I changed the matrix on our V70R, and although a bit fiddly not too difficult, however, there's no way I'd work on Dave's car, you need to wear your Sunday best just to get in it.

Well thanks folks for your help and advice, I have a volunteer lined up for the job, trust him implicitly, although I have suggested he increases his life cover just incase. Sorry Graham, but your kind offer has not been accepted. Thanks Lee for the formula to clean the windshield after, you haven't been put up to this by Graham I hope

OK trying to source a replacement Heater Matrix, while I like to use genuine Volvo parts in my car, I can't justify paying over £200 from Volvo, when after market one's are for sale for around £50-60. Any one got a recommendation, or know who actually manufacture the Volvo part. German & Swedish sound ok at around £60, but what do you think folks?
