    Unhappy 2.3 t5 V70 emissions help!!!

Car went in for MOT today, blew a 7.0 co reading instead of the 0.03.... Someone help?
Changed the VVT unit as mine has the VVT exhaust side and it threw the light on cos it was playing up. I left battery off to clear the code, then took the car for a drive, EML stayed off and it got its power back
I left the car a couple of hours and restarted it and the EML is back
Won't know what the code is till tomorrow but does anyone have any ideas?

Okay so the emissions was due to a dead pre cat lambda..
However the VVT control still throws on the EML intermittently.
I replaced the unit with a second hand one from the breakers but I'm still getting the fault.
Could I have been unlucky enough to pick up another dead one? Or do I have something more synister on my hands here?

Oh right, does it not adapt automatically? Is this a Volvo only thing or can I go elsewhere?
