Geoff, I've done both the driveshafts on my S60, they're fairly straight forward although you may have to release the control arm/ball joint from the hub to allow the outer CV joint to come out of the hub.

The drivers side will have an added step of releasing the carrier bearing from a mount before the shaft can come out. On my S60 it was 2 10mm bolts and then it's off once the outer CV is free from the hub.

The passenger side is easiest, although you'll need to place a couple of flat bladed screwdrivers behind the inner CV to unclip it from the transmission case.

I did a write-up on it somewhere, that is if it hasn't been deleted. I'm happy to send some photos or post them on this thread if it helps.

Ok, well the passenger side is the easier one to do. You may get a 'dribble' of transmission oil when you take the old one out. The new one will just 'clip' in to the transmission, that is assuming that it fits in the same way as the one on the P2 models (should do).

My recommendation is a company called J&R CV Joints based in Birmingham, they do discount driveshafts, brand new units (not refurbished) and they come with a 2 year warranty. Got both the S60 ones from here, ordered them online and they were about £50 each including carriage. I've had no issues with the product which they claim meets or exceeds OE quality.....

    FYI......

This shows how I unclipped the old Driveshaft from the gearbox (n/s) using a large screwdriver. You have to give it a wiggle, it will come out and you'll see it slowly moving out of the transmission. Once it's out so far, you can gently slide it out by hand and it will be off.......

Good stuff, the delivery is normally pretty prompt as well (a couple of days). Get some CV/Axle grease for the splines on the end of the outer CV, I greased mine up when I fitted them and did the same of my mates Renault Scenic.

My only advise is you cannot re-use the centre stretch bolt - a new one has to be used every time.

Slightly more expensive Geoff, but not too bad..........

Double check the fitment with the seller just to make sure. By the way, I'm surprised J&R CV Joints don't do the whole shaft for your car, they seem to do just about everything else.

Do the C70's use the stretch bolt then Dave? I ask because I thought the C70 was based loosely on the P1 platform that has a castle nut? If it does use the same stretch bolt system as the P2 models, perhaps the driveshafts were the same for both cars.....

If it's the nearside one Geoff, it's pretty straight forward, just use a pry bar to persuade it out of the gearbox.

ME7 engined cars use stretch bolts, M4.4 cars use a nut.
