These Volvo's do amaze me with the age and what they are still capable of. Also the price you can pick up a T5 for now means you get a lot of car for the money, dare I say the best spec'd and powered car for under a grand?
Apart from Gul's as they are worth a lot more.

In 22 years of motoring I've owned 30 cars, the Volvo 850 T5 was the second cheapest ever bought, back in October last year). It is certainly one of the best for smiles (especially with a cheeky 15psi of boost remap)

Also very impressed for the age of the car (1996).

I notice not very many T5's for sale and can't see them getting any cheaper, especially for a good one. T5-R and 850R will certainly appreciate if kept in good fettle.

I've no worries about taking my 850 anywhere. Had a lot of people tell me our Volvo isn't suitable for European driving due it being 20 years old and doesn't have the same reliability of a newer car. In 2 1/2 years ownership its done 50TKM's, 20TKM abroad, driven in all weather conditions and it still hasnt let me down.

Yep, my old 850R is the one that eclipses everything I've owned, including the current V70Rs. I reckon my perfect keeper car would be a red manual 855R in that almost-as-new condition.

As you say Ettienne, they're absolutely usable as a daily driver.
    Currently - '96 850R auto

    Previously - '97 S70 T5 manual, '98 V70R AWD auto, '98 V70R Auto in Nautic Blue Mica with LPG (went to Germany!), 1996 850R Auto, lots of various 940s, 960s and a crappy 850 2.0

mine is happy as a daily and for 1k for my T-5R seeing a rather bashed up green manual go for more than a grand i cant really complain at it. going to germany it was smooth as silk even at speed fully loaded. no road noise or anything. 180K and still going strong that baffles everyone at work how its still working. volvo

Build quality of 850's is brilliant and i was in the motor trade for 32 yrs. The rustproofing is A1 and puts most car manufacturers to shame, The cosmetic stuff like front wings and tailgates can be put aside, Both my 855's are structurally perfect, Chassis legs, Floors, Inner arches, Inner and outer sills etc, I wonder whether the base shell was zinc dipped or something but i cant find any info about it, I believe the 700 series were dipped but could be wrong, A Volvo qualified panel beater told me that years ago.
