    S60 2.0t DSTC questions.

What exactly is this supposed to do? If i press and hold the DSTC button the message on the dash will say "spin control off", yet when it loses traction the light still flashes but the wheels do seem to be spinning.

I noticed that when i was driving in the snow it seemed to be working a lot when the car was understeering.

When its turned off, does it simply turn of the traction control off, so it will let the wheels spin, but still brake different wheels when needed. Or is it vice versa, or both??

I doubt you'd be able to fully turn it off on an auto Liam. It limits damage to the auto box. That why mercs can't be fully turned off anyway.

It turns off the traction control, but still leaves stability control on, or vice versa. You can only turn it off fully in an R.

And it's still on a little then, according to Mr Williams after giving me his account at Combe.

So, it will let the wheels spin when going in a straight line, but step in if the car starts to understeer or oversteer.

Not sure if this is the same on all S60 ?,or if it's just on the R's.

Turning it off kills the esp function. The actual traction control (detects one driven wheel spinning faster than the other and brakes the faster wheel) is always on. What gets turned off is the car's ability to cut the throttle and brake individual wheels.

It seems a bit hit and miss, it didn't step in when I got ours sideways at Silverstone, but have noticed the t/c light flash occasionally on the strip (though not always).

The light will flash to warn you of wheelspin even when the system is off.

DSTC = Dynamic Stability Traction Control.

On the R models it can be partially disabled or fully disabled.

    Partially disabled

Disables the Traction control the electronic control on torque when pulling away from standstill. I thinks its a 30% reduction when on and is controlled up to 30 mph.

    DSTC fully disabled

This turns off Traction control (above) AND Dynamic stability control. This is the electronic clever wizardry that controls the EBFD (electronic Brake Force Distribution) and brakes individual wheels when turning a corner and the car detects slip or a skid.

Here's a short video on how it works:
