Quick update to this thread, the car has now had the following fitted:

    - OEM Rear brake discs and pads, I think the rear discs that were removed were the originals! Not bad that they lasted 19 years, the only item on the last MOT advisory.

    - OEM Front strut brace, this makes a significant improvement, I was somewhat sceptical, but it feels much tighter, less wallow and a lot more pointy feel... in short the steering wooliness has been largely removed.

I posted this in the 'How does your ride sit' thread but thought it would be nice for a little update in here:

Replaced the number plate that looked tired with reflective backing peeling, plus some good Meguires love yesterday, BCS (upgraded to later model) and Vacuum lines also now replaced:

Since then I've also given the mud flaps the Plasticare treatment

The car has been outside in the elements for over 5 months and the Xmas application of Plasticare is still doing the business for the bumpers.

So, small update, the only recent work was replacing the handbrake shoes with new Bosch originals after they started sounding a bit noisy and becoming detached not long after the new rear pads/discs were fitted. If I'd realised these were likely to be a pain I'd have had them done at the same time. You live and learn!

Fortunately the same garage charged just £30+VAT to fit these and I sourced the shoes in France for £20, along with a full spring/fitting kit, result is now a perfect handbrake with no noise!

Last remaining thing to date - I then had a lambda light that had been occasionally flashing on, some good detective work with the Torque App and a £4 ELM327 device told me that I most likely had a vacuum leak causing it to run rich with unmetered air, this led to a very nice thread on here about a small elbow on the inlet manifold left hand side. This is what I found, it was completely knackered:

New part delivered direct from Volvo in Colchester for £5 (part number 9155862), fitted by Kingsford G who has all the manual dexterity of a cat, light reset and problem solved, car runs perfectly now!

Good work. My brothers T5 had the same when I changed the PCV for him and he says it make such a difference to the car's running and idling.

Fantastic work as usual, love the fact you fix all the little bits that are often neglected.

When you open the bonnet it's the left hand side of the inlet manifold, hidden behind one of the coolant pipes and the PAS pump. Quite difficult to reach, although that photo was taken by dangling my phone from above.

Not really much of an update, covered 200 miles at the weekend and sorted some small jobs:

    - Door check strap improvement, as per the 'clicking door' thread on here, referenced under my photos.
    - Custom brass bushes fitted to both gear selector cables
    - NXT Tech wax

I wasn't being a foglight buffoon, light was fading and it was the first time I'd tried them out (parked up after cleaning) since buying the car nearly a year ago

Looks great, you mentioned earlier in your thread about swapping the BCS for a later version. Is this a better part or were you simply replacing a failed unit?

It's a better part, but you have no choice as the current cylinder one is obsolete and no longer available, here's the thread:

Really like your car! Always look forward to updates. Its so refreshing to see an 850 T5 being thoroughly maintained and kept mostly standard. Are you attending the Cosford meet Kmb?

Thanks Saaamon - Unfortunately I'm French side for at least the next month, so no opportunity to attend the Cosford meet, I've had quite a few dealings with people on here and would like to say thanks in person to many of them, but not possible this time.

Small update time as I was UK side a couple of times recently:

    - PAS fluid has been flushed and replaced with Dextron III new fluid (bought a 500ml oil extraction syringe by Sealey, worked well).
    - Obtained some bargain 7k miler Koni yellow adjustables with Eibach springs and top mounts off a member on here, these are now fitted to replace the original suspension that had nearly turned 20 years and 140k miles!

Here's are the before and after pics, not the best... but almost show the new 'stance' [/Shoot me]

    Before:

    After:

From measurements to the arch it dropped 35mm on all four corners, discreetly lower and firmer, shocks are set 25% of max firmness. It has, as you would expect, transformed the driving experience, much less boaty and no pitch and yaw effect on every turn, boost and brake.

Just purchased the following Bosch OEM parts for the next maintenance items on the car:

    - Rotor
    - Distributor Cap
    - Set of Spark Plug Leads

Spent quite a bit of time pondering the PFV online offerings which came to around £70 delivered for the above items, then found a French website and paid £100 delivered for the same parts all Bosch...

Probably not the most sensible to pay an extra £30 just to keep it all Bosch, but felt these parts were too important to worry about a smallish saving.

I really must not surf the net on wet and rainy Monday afternoons... especially when europarts has 25% off all prices, including those already discounted.

There is another new part coming for the car, a new 70Ah and 620CCA car battery, the car sits around for a few weeks at a time and the existing Bosch with 56Ah and 480CCA has started going flat within 7-8 days of non use, it's also a few years old.

    Was a bargain £41 delivered, can't resist a bargain

To be fitted with the ignition parts above when back next week!
