Good to see you at the weekend, and also to see the awesome job you're making on pushing my old 850 forwards - I honestly think it's one of the best ones out there now!

Looked great with the new seats fitted and other little bits

I’m the proud owner of this car having bought it from Hippohead.

Work done so far in the 5-6 weeks I’ve had it:

    - air conditioning nearly full rebuild - new evaporator, compressor, sensors. Professionally done by ex Volvo specialists.

    - cambelt, aux belt MOT and brake fluid change.

    - new wooden steering wheel

    - x5 volans purchased which will need refurb.

    Some pics

    Next jobs:

    - gearbox fluid change
    - front right caliper replacement (nipple stuck)
    - fuel tank removal for vent pipe replacament
    - volans refurb and fit

    Future aspirations
    - replace entire sunroof as the bracket guide behind it is broken (hence it doesn’t alide back)
    - replace all dashboard illumination lights (should have done it with AC work!)
    - rust protection underneath waxoil professional treatment
    - find a T5R or 850R front spoiler!!

The car will be used daily but a quick drive to station and back. Plus the odd long haul.

Looks like you caught Volvolitis, symptoms include emptying wallet and a silly big grin on your face when driving. If you take a fancy to Swedish meatballs or start looking at Ikea catalogues seek urgent medical help.

If you own a Volvo, an IKEA family card is mandatory.

Thanks kenny. Can I actually still buy one from volvo? What sort of price would I be looking at £300+? Thats probably my limit!

Brilliant progression, glad to see my old car moving forwards. Keep the updates coming... I always fancied putting some Volans on it.

    Quick update (no pics sadly):

Wooden wheel fitted and feels great. Thank you a few members on here for helping out on the front bumper. I was about to oder the 850R lip until I found the PCV issue (below) so that takes priority. But will definitely be getting the extension from TopCat they look great.

Checked Idle Control Valve as there is a slight laziness in revs drop after gear change. I can live with it till next garage visit.

Did the PCV glove test and it filled up at least I’ve found it now whilst its bone dry underneath so that’s on the list. Left the dipstick a tad out.

I’m keen to keep the regular oil change @kmb do you remember if it has synthetic oil? Any oil recommendations most welcome!

Loving every mile in it so far!

I cannot remember for sure on the oil, but there is an Opie oil invoice in the service history and that should have the grade and viscosity reference...

I think it was semi synthetic, maybe 5W 40, but the above will confirm.

The PCV was checked at 138k miles by a trusted garage and all OK then, I also did the glove test at 140k with no issues, I know Mitch was very fastidious so bit surprised the PCV appears to be blocked, you may want to repeat the test as I know it's had very regular oil changes and good care since last checked.

Hello mate thanks for getting back. That’s a good point about the receipts thank you will have a look! As for the glove test I have seen the ones online and the glove shoots up! This is nowhere near, I’d say its very gradually starts building it up, but it definitely does not suck.

I don’t mind at all bud, the car is cracking and very well looked after. This isn’t a big issue and at some point needed doing.

You're right - It's a maintenance item, certainly won't hurt to keep things ticking along smoothly.

    Well quick update:

Took it do a volvo specialist who did the work above for me. Did the following:

    Gearbox oil change
    Fuel filter change
    Oil and filter change

I asked them to replace the PCV. They got all the kit ready went to test it and they said it was fine! I’m slightly flummoxed as when I tested it the glove was inflating albeit slowly.

If its working well should the glove not be sucked in as per the youtube video? When I asked them if the glove was being sucked when they tested it they said it would never do that as the crank is always under a bit of pressure. So now i’m confused.

I’ll try and put a video of it tomorrow.

Yeah I’m annoyed with myself as I should have said just do it. They were supplying the kit.

I may go back to them later next month and say just do it anyway.

I’ll pop a video anyway. I’m in Hampshire area, are there any good recommendations of other garage that are used to these older cars?

    Many thanks!
    Will

I’m going to have a go myself -

Can I check if this is the right one

Or are there model specific kits?

    Cheers

More excellent progress, good to see - As mentioned the PCV was checked by a garage under my ownership and I think always has a little glove inflation as they told me the same i.e. all OK.
