So back in UK last week for 10 days got to do some fettling to the old Volvo:

Battery fitted (strangely a much tighter and better fit in the battery tray than the smaller Bosch one).
Bosch HT leads, rotor arm and dizzy cap fitted.

The good news is their was a very occasional misfire noticeable under light throttle in high gears and the ignition parts have resolved that, plus it now reaches full boost cleanly and consistently, which didn't seem the case previously - not sure if that was connected with the very occasional misfire.

Here are my two vehicles blocking the parent's drive, oh how popular I was... They're probably glad I'm back in France now (after 1150km drive done on Saturday)...

I do like the drive of the car so much more now the 140k original suspension is replaced

The T5 is on bricks as I leave in in reverse rather than resting on the handbrake, too many bad experiences with my Hondas and sticking brake pistons/stuck handbrakes.

    Nothing too exciting changed recently.

Although another years (well 13 months as I got it done early) MOT obtained for the old green machine, as the only work required was tightening a suspension bolt which was probably the fault of my buddy who fitted the shocks/springs, some Meguires NXT was applied as a reward...

Not looking too bad for 20 years old!

Just to add an update and some not very interesting pics to this thread...

I just made a whistle stop visit back to UK, managed to get a couple of hundred miles use from the old 850, which never skipped a beat and is running better than ever - The only downside was the ice scraping... I've been south of France based for 8 years now and it was a hardship, who put all those windows on my car?

I cheated, front screen and side windows only, economy of effort and use of my credit card was applied due to my poor prep and loss of icescraper

Bloody hell I remember ice too, you can put it in your drink. Got to say, it's not very environmentally friendly, but I used to fire the car up & come back later

Sounds about right, us immigrants (into foreign warmer climes) don't know we're born!

I went to a fancy cocktail bar which is out of town in Colchester (Mimosa for those local), I felt the burbling exhaust and general age of my vehicle when I parked right out front, may not have been fully appreciated... I forgot to lock it, any nobody stole it, so it has some advantages

    So clean and tidy!

If she was mine I'd get some caravan wheel chocks to save the tyres and a nice breathable fitted cover.

Sad days, after repeating whinges from my aging father about the T5 being left on the drive back in the UK (he rarely drives these days), I mentioned that I might consider selling it to one of my buddies who is a friend of the previous owner, who we both know... end result he flew in from Northern Ireland Friday night and just drove my old 850 beast 600 miles back home from Suffolk!

I put him in contact with Adrian (Mole-T5-R) to source some front seats and my friend's return trip has now included replacing the one weak point of my car, two nice new biege leather heated seats are now in place.

Very sorry to see the olive green beast go, but pleased I will see the progress and it will get some more regular use. He has commented he loved the mapped M4.4 (by Oblark) on the way home.

New owner is called 'hippohead' on here so I think he's going to update this thread as he develops the car further... sticky tyres and DS2500 sound like they'll appear soon!

Will continue to hang around the forum as I love following the projects etc. and def a soft spot for 850's. Have also met and had dealings with quite a few of you, a decent bunch.

    Update over

Good to here that your going to stick around and watch Mitch's progress with the car, his parents had been over and picked up the seats in readiness for his return, so I hope cars interior is looking superb again

Yep - Glad it worked out OK Adrian, he's already got the seats fitted and sent me photos, looks fantastic and helps finish off an otherwise top condition motor!

Very happy Adrian!!! I've just returned from my travels and have lots of plans for Victor (the car) mainly consisting of suspension refresh and brake upgrade.

    Cheers guys

As Kev said above, I flew over to him to collect the car and take it back to NI via a race meet at Donnington and my parents at Telford (where the seats were fitted). I then proceeded to Cairnryan so over the course of 600 miles, I have quickly learnt the car.

Coming from an FN2 with new upgraded suspension, FRS and upgraded brakes - the 21 yr old Volvo feels a little bit 'knocky' and 'soft' and really doesn't brake well - so on the drive home I decided that I will carry out the following (not exhaustive or detailed):

Lower arms from PFVonline (saves re bushing the existing arms)
    Subframe poly inserts
    HD drop links
    Camber bolts
    OE Engine mounts
    ARB bushes
New Disks and DS2500 pads - will try these in an attempt to keep the oe wheels although 205 50 16 limits choice and is a little expensive so may go to 17s quite soon.
New tyres all round - was going to go for AD08s or similar but will probably go for an eagle F1 etc to preserve the drivetrain a bit.

On to the motor though.. It flies.... I've owned some fast cars - really fast cars (Alpina B10 V8 / Stage2 S14A) and this feels more muscular in 3rd / 4th / 5th thanks the Oblark Ecu?? - what are the torque figures????
    Anyway some random pics:

Yep, the ignition components did free up some more boooooosts (peak is 17psi if I remember right), it's genuinely rapid, particularly 3-4-5th, very pleased the long return leg went entirely to plan, the new seats from Adrian make it so much better!

Looking forward to seeing your next developments, and glad Victor (nee Sherman) has gone to a good home.

I think the brakes and handling components are very wise, the Koni adjustables and Eibachs made a huge difference... imagine the current power on 140k original suspension, not sure how I survived to be honest

To keep all the bits and pieces in one place and help Mitch in his ongoing improvement, here's a list of what I did in 2.5 years of ownership:

    Bumper Plasticare dye
    Touch Up
    Volvo Front Upper Strut Brace
Oblark Mapped M4.4 ECU (A/C enabled)
    Clear side repeaters
    New wheel centres
    Rear disc/pads fit kit
    Handbrake shoes fit kit
    Leather armrest & cup holders
    Tailgate central locking
    Tailgate clips
    Wiper Stalk
    Expansion Tank
    Windscreen
    Upgraded Fuel Injectors to Whites
    Vacuum Pipes & elbow
Boost Control Solenoid (newer square type)
    Rear number plate
    Clutch slave cylinder
    Clutch hydraulic hose
    Brake/Clutch fluid & both bled (138.2k miles)
    Door check strap improvement
Custom brass bushes fitted to both gear selector cables
Oil, filter & sump plug washer, Shell Helix Synthetic 10W40 (138.6k miles)
PAS Dextron III, fluid replaced & bled (139.4k miles)
Koni yellow adjustables and Eibach springs fitted (140k miles)
    New Bosch rotor/dizzy cap/HT leads
    New battery fitted
    4 Wheel Alignment/Adjustment (140.6k miles)
Many fresh coats of Meguires NXT Tech Wax

Just before I bought it at 136k it had:

ITG Maxogen replacement drop in air filter
    Powerflow cat back stainless exhaust
Full Volvo independent service, including new plugs

I have to say, thanks to this forum the mods were very well informed and I'd do all of them again!

    So... quick update.

Over the last month or so I have carried out the following:

    TRW lower arms
    TRW HD Drop links
    Polybush top Engine mount
    lower torque mount
DS2500 front pads and Brembo plain disks
    Team Heko wind deflectors
Refurbed the wheels to Volvo 932 (anthracite) and fitted a complete set of Toyo T1Rs (not my favourite but were a steal)

    I have remaining to fit:
    Eibach Alignment bolts
    TRW tie rod ends
New Subframe bolts and Poly Subframe bush inserts
    New Heater Core / matrix
Re alignment with a bit of Neg camber up front (will take some advice on Fast Road settings)

    Future plans:
    Braided hoses and RBF600
