    C70 2.0 to T5

    Soo...

    The Father in law has a 2000/01 Y-reg 2.0t C70 with a pretty pants 180bhp and a failing ETM.

I was looking at getting it remapped for a giggle (and to shut him up) for a fairly modest gain to 210bhp if you believe Rica's crap on the website.

Then I threw a spanner in the works and took him out in my (formerly Jamesy's) S70 - a slightly fettled T5!

Now, predictably he wants some of that action!

Anyway, I'm waffling now. (Boxing day, most of a case of Strongbow done)

    So I was wandering...

With the car being ME7, if I were to suddenly find myself with an ME7 T5 lump complete with turbo etc taking up space in my shed, would it just be a case of bolting it into to C70 and swapping in the ECU??

You never know, this could even lead to me and him lining up on the strip at this rate!

For what it would cost, it would be cheaper to buy a T5, they're only about £500/600.

Hmm... Trouble is, he's quite attached to the car and to be fair it is mechanically sound.

I suppose I was thinking of it as a sort of 'bonding' thing between me and him too.
Not that we really need it, as we get on like a house on fire anyway (hence the case of Strongbow each!)

As for the ECU, is that because of the coding in the key?
If so, could strapping the appropriate key to the collumn not work, as favoured in so many old skool conversions?

The ECU is coded to the car, so unlike M4.3/4s you can't just swap ECUs between cars.

    Ah, fair do's.

Hmm... Worth a second coat of looking at then, and probably more than pub logic!

As long as you swap over ALL of the sensors and exhaust then I can't see a problem.

You need to find a T5 ECU if the same year then I can marry them up so the T5 will start in the car.

    Cost is £120.

The most important sensors that you might not think of are MAF, complete with element and housing AND the BPS.

    Thanks.

Yeah, I was thinking of swapping pretty much everything over.

    But... BPS??

As for recoding the ECU, is that something that you could do by post?
I only ask, as you're not exactly around the corner from me

    Edit:
    Boost pressure sensor.
    Gotcha

    Cool.

    So what would that involve?

Post you both ECUs, for you to make me one usable one?

Also, how much to stick a less crap map on it while you were at it?

i cant understand why you dont just change a few items, ie turbo to 19T/k24, 3" exhaust, injectors and intercooler. i have a mate with a 2.0T running 400whp on standard engine

    Tempting.

But I would have thought a 19t on a 2.0 would be massively laggy.

Plus, there's the cost to consider.

I could pick up a donor for a few hundred quid with pretty much everything I need already on it.

A decent 19t would cost that on it's own, probably more realistically

You'd never need to worry about split liners on a 2L.

Thinking about it, I've been toying with upgrading the S70 to an 18t as the 16 is well and truely maxed as it is.

What sort of gains could I expect with a 16t, exhaust and decent map on a 2.0?
    I don't know what turbo a 2.0t runs, but I'm presuming it's tiny, maybe a 13?

Ok, so I'm giving this a bit more thought now.

    So, let's say I have a goal of 250bhp.

What would I be looking at mod wise, on a budget, to reach this?

Does the 2.0 have crappy rods, or can they handle a decent whack of boost?
I know the block is good for it, due to thicker cylinder walls

Am I right in thinking that the 2.0 manual 'box has shorter ratios too?
Should make a reasonably quick car at that sort of power. Def a big step up from standard.

    9psi on an R map?

Surely the R map would boost much higher?

Or am I missing something? I usually do!

Hmm... Beginning to think I smell

Come on people, give me some ideas, preferably on a budget.
I went out in the car in question before, it's painful, even my diesel 960 feels quicker!!
