Thumbs up Radio unit swaps - useful info!

I've been told by at least 2 people that when you swap a radio unit over from one car to another (say an S60 to another S60), the radio unit won't work without a trip to the Main Stealer.

Well, this isn't necessarily the case! I swapped the original radio unit on my S60 over for a different one because the CD player was knackered. The new unit came off another, completely different S60, and when I hooked up the battery and turned the unit on it worked perfectly, first time with no requirement for it to be programmed or coded by Volvo!

Whether this applies in all cases I can't say for sure but I can say from first hand experience, it would seem it's just 'plug and play' for the most part.
