    Steering wheel judder when twizzling

When I twizzle the steering wheel from lock to lock, when shunting into a parking space for example, the steering wheel judders. This occours when I am stationary or just crawling and only when I spin the steering quite quickly. If turn the wheel slowly it does not do it. It does not do it when I am rolling above 5mph, only when stationary or crawling. It's as if the pump can't keep up if I do it too quickly. Also seems to get better when car warms up.
Checked PAS fluid level and is normal. Can't see any obvious leaks or problems.
    What do you think?

Could be your PAS pump but I'd check your fluid levels first if you haven't already.

Fluid levels OK. Dunno how to check pump short of putting another one on and seeing if it cures it. Expensive way of trial and error!

Mine does exactly the same m8, same symptoms and everything!

It's not the pump, I've had this confirmed by a Volvo specialist master tech.
First port of call is going to be a drain, flush and refill of the P/S fluid. That should sort it....if not, I'll be putting up with it cos a new rack is over £1000.
I am inclined to believe that the previous owner may have topped up with the wrong fluid. P2 models should have LHM fluid and not the standard Dexron II or III found in most other makes. Mixing the fluid can have a big effect on steering and degrade the seals over time. Thankfully, mine does not leak so I know the seals are good.

My flush is going to be in next few weeks, maybe just after Christmas. If you can hang on that long, I'll let you know if the issue is solved.
I will also be buying the new, updated P/S reservoir as mine is the old version.

Good man Lee! I feel a bit better now. Yep, I will wait for the outcome of your flush and see how we go.

Done a PAS fluid flush. Problem solved! Glad about that bearing in mind the cost of a steering rack...
Old fluid was black and gloopy. Definately needed changing.

Used the big syringe method. Got through a bottle and a quarter of new fluid before it was clean. Was trying to put up pics but photobucket is being an arse

So you sucked out all the old fluid from the reservoir then refilled with new fluid. Then you started the car and turned the steering lock to lock (how many times) and then sucked out all the fluid again and repeated.....??
....and you only used a 1.25 litres?

I know it doesn't hold very much fluid but are you sure all your fluid is replaced and clean now?

I was going to buy 5 Litres of LHM and suck it all out - refill, then drive the car for a day and repeat the same until I'd used all 5 litres. Can be bought cheap at Euros.

No, ran it for a day then did it again.

    £9.59 a litre from S C Motor factors.

Euro's don't do it, in fact they are useless and even list my car (by the reg) as having Dexron II.
