They are simply heated until cherry red then slid over the shaft. Then when they cool they literally grip on tight as!
To remove, simply break off the old one and heat up (with a blow torch or Oxy/acet - but be careful) then slip over.
Before you remove the old one, make sure you mark up where it sits. Once it's slipped on you can tap it around a little while it's still very hot.
