Question Where's the EGR vale on a T5?

Where is the EGR valve on the 2.3 T5 or does it not have one? I know the D5 one is located behind the mixer pipe at the front of the engine but I can't find where the T5 equivalent is.

That's what I thought, but I wanted to check. I wasn't sure whether the petrol cars had them too because it seems you can buy EGR vales for the petrol engines....

PCV is totally different, EGR is to lower emissions, PCV isn't.

As M-R-P said...someone has screwed up...I have looked everywhere and found no EGR valve on a T5 as it has the PCV system which is not EGR !

But...don`t all be fooled the X40 Volvo B4184SM/SJ petrol engine has an EGR valve....

What confuses me is the whole Wastegate and recirculation of exhaust gases by the Turbo. Doesn't the Turbo recirculate exhaust gases to build boost pressure or does it just take the air in and let the pressure build up? The key word for me here is 'Wastegate', the 'waste' suggesting it's recirculating a waste product (i.e. exhaust gases'). That's why I've queried this as I the D5 also has a Wastegate (PITA to though get to I noticed!).

I must be missing part of the jigsaw.......

wastegate is there to control boost i.e the exhaust gasses are passed through the exhust side of the turbo which spin the exhaust wheel once the turbo reaches the desired presure the actuator opens the waste gate in order to control the boost by diverting some exhaust gasses out of the wastegate. otherwise as the engine kicks out more exhaust gasses the turbo would continue to gain boost.

I think I remember one of the knowledgeable gentlemen above telling me that (most) UK Volvo petrols don't have an EGR

Yep, my Cougar had both, EGR just sends exhaust gases back into the combustion chamber (whatever moron thought of that needs shooting in the face), whereas PCV equals the crankshaft pressure with atmospheric pressure (more or less). The only reason gases, and oil if the engine's worn, go through the engine, is because venting to atmosphere is frowned upon.
