    replacement front screen via AA.

Thought would just post this, and by way of update for LeeT5 front screen had nasty crack in it and needed replacement, I have full AA support, for the obvious reasons, 30k a year in an R, thought might be wise, anyway I thought the AA would cover this as part of the maintenance pack, transpired the AA do not cover screens but something they are looking into. They would have replaced the screen via the mobile engineers through my insurance, but it was easier just to get the work done via my insurance direct with 75.00 excess.

Yeah good call, the AA are pretty useful, it's great too, any car you sit in is covered for breakdown.

Wouldn't have expected their parts cover to cover you for the windscreen to be fair as it's not really classed as a breakdown. Always best to get it done on the insurance, most if not all don't affect no claims anyway.

Must check with my insurance what my excess for a windscreen would be... Actually thanks for the reminder just switched to a personalised reg and forgot to inform them. Must get on the phone now.

Careful too with the parts cover, my local stealership wouldn't accept a direct payment from the AA, I had to pay cash then get a check from AA (whch was later stolen from my letter box and fraudulently cashed... long story...no fun). Your local might be better and accept direct payment, but they will take it to any VAT registered place so if you have a good specialist near you then that might be a good option. Good idea anyways though OEM Volvo parts are not cheap.

Got to wonder what 30k costs in fuel for a R per year lol...

Fuel on the S60R, well i can be quite accurate on this as i have my own business with fuel card (Allstar).
So had the 7 months and bought it with 48k genuine miles i now have 67k, so nearly 20k covered in that period. Since march i have spent £4300.00 on fuel so a quick calculation i reckon i would have spent £7500.00 over 12M, i think this works out on average at around £155.00 per week, last week i was on business in Gibraltar so no mileage covered but, from my home in Brighton, This thursday i will drive to Cardiff and back, friday will be SOTON and back, then Monday Redditch and Tuesday Leigh in Manchester before jetting off to Glasgow Wednesday and Thursday. On my current mileage i reckon in the next 5 months i will hit the 30k mark again., But my mileage is chargeable to my clients so it kinda pays for itself in a round about way!

I did keep on eye the guy who change the screen as i was fearing the blue strip across the top would be missing, but it was all good, the crack was really nasty so it had be changed, i also have a nasty gash in the from bumper where a piece of rubber from a lorry flew off and hit me, oh well, looking to get it into the body shop in the spring for touch ups and front bumper respray, i tend to have to do this for my cars every couple of years or so.

Sounds about right... So around the cost of a further 2 second hand S60R's (if you could find two, sales getting pretty rare these days).

I am in kind of a similar position, self employed and do charge location fees, but usually only outside a certain area so I do get screwed a bit, I have very low overheads though.

I find it kind of ironic that the first car that I will probably buy new will be a Porsche and that they are probably in some kind of way to blame for my fuel costs which is part of the reason I have yet the cash to buy one outright.
