    Water Leak !!

As its now getting a bit cooler, have started using the heater and in turn have started losing water!

I have searched the forum so know its a common problem.

My symptom is water loss after using the car. No leaks while standing still, no misting of windscreen, no mayo anywhere and no wet carpets.
The previous owner had already replaced the expansion tank with the green cap but that could need replacing?

I do have quite a bit of water vapor from exhaust on start up but thats it.

Waiting for my mechanic to get it on the ramps for a more extensive look around but just in case I need a new rad, I did see a thread somewhere about an uprated rad, but since then I cannot find the thread again.

Therefore does anyone have any info on what that rad is, from where and how much? In addition in case its a water pump is there an uprated one of those or will the standard volvo one be sufficient??

Hopefully it might just be a hose, but again is there any uprated hose that anyone recommends?

Sorry about all the questions but experience counts for alot!!

    Thanks,

    uh-oh.

Keep an eye on the auto transmission fluid and its level - Volvo radiators rot internally and its pretty common to have them fail and lose coolant into the autobox via the transmission cooler built into the radiator...
    Currently - '96 850R auto

    Previously - '97 S70 T5 manual, '98 V70R AWD auto, '98 V70R Auto in Nautic Blue Mica with LPG (went to Germany!), 1996 850R Auto, lots of various 940s, 960s and a crappy 850 2.0

I haven't checked the transmission dipstick recently.
Would that have mayo if water is going into the box?

It won't be mayo as such, it'll be an opaque pink rather than clear red.

I had a look at the Tranny dipstick and it is a very dark colour instead of red and I only had it changed a couple of years ago !!
So does this mean the gearbox will be ruined?
In answer to my original question does anyone know of a uprated radiator??
    Cheers !!

No, it means it about time you changed the oil in the auto box or you`ll be changing the auto box.

Thanks stribo, found that one last night and very pricey compared to standard one but if it does an excellant job, mite give it a go.
Will have the gearbox done again at the same time !

I got on for my C70, as the original decided it couldn't handle the weight of the upgraded do88 intercooler.

may also be worth lifting the footwell carpets and checking the soundproofing mats below aren't soaking to rule out heater matrix leaks, the carpets are plastic backed so the water doesn't come through from below hiding the problem

After much ado, the rad decided to leak water properly at the weekend so having it changed for a regular volvo item (cheap price from Braydons!) but not the uprated one I wanted due to the fact my mechanic is going on a month long cruise sponsored by Volvo drivers!!

With an oil change and tranny box oil change this should rectify the issue.....unless it then means something else needs changing !!

In the meantime big thanks for all the suggestions !
