    2.4 t5 block in a 2005 v70r

Has anyone done this? Been ready some posts flying around forums and it seems to have not bad results especially with a pretty decent re-map, I have the necessary mods done to my car to get a mte stage 2 remap or something similar. Maybe this would be an easier/safer option than shimming my cracked liner and there is not many decent second hand blocks going around for these v70 r's either.

    Thanks Craig

As long as it's the later 2.4 and not the early 2.4.

Would it not just be cheaper to get your current block shimmed?

I bought this engine under warranty and it was faulty before I even put it in, I mentioned the shimming to him and sent pictures etc explaining this, he said he couldn't do it and if he did there was no further warranty, he doesn't have any More R blocks but I could get the t5 block fitted all at his cost.

I have the later 2.4 T5 engine in my S60R. I have the liners shimmed, forged rods, ported head. I have 366 BHP with 505 Nm. With an mte custom map and other supporting mods but most people are now shimming the 2,5 block because 100cc is 100cc

I just don't feel safe shimming it when it is already cracked and pushing the bhp up, surely that would be asking for disaster. I think I would rather have the extra strength and reliability of the 2.4 t5 block.

I'm running 434bhp with a repaired cracked liner without any problems. whether you put another block in or repair yours, you would be mad not to shim it.

It can be done fine but you need to modify the map for the displacement difference.

Did you do anything to the crack (weld it etc) or did you just shim it?

Is the jb weld just to hold the shims in place or fill the crack or both.

We've all been around the block (excuse the pun) and as claymore says it should be fine, it's something that tim Williams offers to do, when I spoke with him iirc it's like 95% or similar works fine, obviously no guaranty, but mine runs like a watch.
