    Which top grade oil?

My car is having a 140k service next month. I've decided to change from the normal 5W30 Castrol gtx magnetec that I've always used and go for a more advanced oil.

The two oils I can't decide on are...

    1) Castrol EDGE sport 0w40
    2) Mobil 1 New life 0w40.

Both are top grade oils.....just can't decide which is the best?

If you have always used the same oil and it's running fine, why bother to change to a totally different viscosity?

Got to agree, I asked the same question to a Volvo tech and he told me as long as your service history is tip top don't change the grade there is no point......

...because 0w30 oil flows better when cold than 5w30.

That's quite obvious that it will flow better but realistically imho 5w is more than thin enough for cold start properties.
dont get me wrong its up to you what you do but isnt this what many people have been saying to james about messing around with different grade oils if your car has been run on 5w personally I would just keep to it if all the tollerances are running fine ie no smoking etc why run the risk of adding a finer grade oil.

James' problem was running totally the wrong grade in an engine that has done enough miles to reach the moon.

The average distance to the moon is just over 238000 miles so James' car is on it's way back now

If I drove to the moon, I'd want a bit of a drive around before setting off home again. Not long before you arrive at the moon.
