    Pcv how to !

    Hi Guys !
Im new to the forum and live in Spain.
There arent many independent Volvo Mechs out here so im pretty much having to do all the spanner spinning myself.

I just received a parcel with all the bits in to change the PCV box ab¡nd hoses.

Is there any step by step "HOW TOO" for this job ?
Im a bit nervouc about it and need a little direction .

Anyone else out there done this as a DIY fix ?

    Best Wishes

The actual PCV change on an R, a T5 or a 2.4 petrol should be more or less the same if not identical.

Yep. Some of the procedures and ancillarys may differ a little but not enough to be any kind of problem.

TBF, it does look like a right PITA job, I know I'm keen but even this looks like a job for a Volvo specialist because the A/C compressor seems to have been removed.

The AC pump was removed from the block but not disconnected.

I did my PCV without removing anything other than the rad fan and boost pipes. Working blind, I changed the catch tank, some of the pipes and flushed the rest. I wouldn't recommend this method but it worked for me.

Can't advise on that but the water may evaporate before the manifold is put back on.

A full PCV change should involve removing the inlet manifold for access to the pipes. Having the ports open isn't ideal but unavoidable. It's best to stuff some rag in the ports to avoid anything getting in (and don't forget to take them out before you put the manifold back on )

I'd probably use an engine degreaser on a rag and just wipe the block over a bit at a time. Saves spraying anything near the ports.

PCV box and pipes all changed in under three hours !
No need to take off the fan or any pumps on the service belts.
Not sure why in the HOW TO there was description of removing those parts and the engine mount !!
Anyway ... While all the covers were out and turbo pressure pipe was out ... My lovely wife gave them a coat of Vibrant Orange paint to match the wheels !!
    I love it !!
Thanks for all of the advice !!

That's quick! It can take me 45 minutes just to remove my ETM.

What did you take off in the end, just the intake manifold and pipes?

In the Swedespeed thread, he only removed the A/C pump to remove the big bracket that he then painted blue, this is not required if your not painting it. A/C pump stays in situ.
It's up to you, but when I did mine, I removed the P/S pump from it's mounting to gain access to the thermostat housing, which I replaced, because to change it can't be done without removal of the inlet manifold to get to the lower right torq bolt.
Other than that, you are cleaning alot of stuff on the rebuild and I also replaced my injector seals so I had to strip the fuel rail.
I would advise checking that your One way valves work too before refitting manifold as these are known to fail at 100k +, both mine were knackered and I lost 2 psi because of them!

My car was out of action for about a week during the PCV replacement.
