    How many cats

How many cats does an 850 T5 have? I'm sure I've read somewhere that it's built in the downpipe, but I had a look under mine at the weekend and it looks as if there's another underneath?

I want to free up some more horses and that's the next logical step!

It has 1 cat built into the downpipe, cut it out and replace it with a suitable race cat or if you have a friendly MOT man, a straight bit of tubing. Be warned the noise will increase as well as BHP

Marvelous thank you, it's always handy having a friendly MOT man A bit more noise wouldn't go amiss anyway as it's not quite got that volume level I'm happy with yet!

Are the downpipes a pig to get off? And any gaskets that will need replacing afterwards?

    Thanks,
    Ben.

Nope, 3x 13mm Gasketless joint, and a Large Clam shell exhaust clamp to centre, lambda sensor will have to be disconnected prior to removal.

just to add, you can just knock the insides of the cat out if you dont want to cut and reweld a straight tube in there

I've no issue welding but that would be a whole lot easier, I haven't ever seen inside one though, is it fragile inside? Or will it take a bit of beating out?

    Cheers chaps.

the 850's cats are quite soft i used a breaker bar to gut mine was very easy,

I tired to do it to a v70 me7 one and its a whole new ball game as there insides are split into 2 sections the 1st being very very tough

I'd weld a pipe in myself, as you want noise I found mine seemed to pull harder & sounded louder with the pipe instead of the empty cat but obviously it's easier just to rip the guts out of it.

it will sound louder with a straight pipe welded in and with flame better through the exhaust lol, I didnt notice any increase in power tho between the 2 methods,

It might not of been power, more throttle response but I carried out a few mods in one hit. I never had flames out of the bullion though.
    It needed a map.
Oh wait, it doesn't matter now!

Flames are always good! A few pops and bangs wouldn't go unloved to be fair, my Jetex system certainly has a noticeable note on WOT but I'm a hoonigan at heart, I want to scare old people

Looks like a weld in job it is then, maybe I'll just exit the exhaust out the front wing?
